HI and sorry that my first post is asking for help!! I am an avid reader of the Porsche section and anything else that takes my fancy!! I had a lovely 996 gt3 clubsport that got stolen and written off after only 3 weeks. Don't ask as its worse than it sounds and its taken me 6 months to finally decide to get another car. I am a fan of the 996 but I have had a few air cooleds and prefer the more retro? look of the 997...

I looked at this black one on Christmas eve-my birthday- and am planning to buy, lump sum in bank and finance in place... but I did a search on the reg today and found old posts on here about the car being crash repaired? The hpi came up clear so I guess it was an under the radar repair? does anyone have any knowledge or proof of this? the car is mint and I think we have agreed on a fair price. It is a lot of money though and I plan to take the car to Australia with me in a year or two's time... I do not want to buy a lemon!!

please can anyone help me with this? was keen on a clubsport as prefer the seats and spec...

thanks in advance

tt dan, thanks for the post.

I just wondered if anyone knows that it was defo repaired? reason being is that an old post mentioned it was repaired but no proof. Seems strange not to be recorded on such a new car? I had a real good look at it and all seemed correct. I think best bet would be opc inspection?

thanks

I remember this reg and a few threads about this car previously. Needless to say it didn't leave it in a good flight. Plus, I wouldn't buy anything that's been near KFC, some very bad stories emanated from that place.

Walk away.

I personally would recommend a PPI from the likes of Peter Morgan or a good indy over that of an OPC.

Thanks everyone for your posts. problem I am having is that the car seems very straight, I am an engineer and work on classic cars every day. I did not have it up in the air but seemed ok.

It seems the fact the car was at a KTC in the past causes people to suspect there may be an issue. I can understand that on the older stuff this place deals in there may be issues but on high end stuff like this that would have been 3 years old at the time? God knows!! If it was a really serious job why would you not have it written off or claim on it as the loss in value would not be as much as repairing a badly damaged car out of your own pocket???

It is just so much money and I do not want to buy something that is unsellable in the future, shame as i really wanted a club sport. I think to be honest though I am better of buying from Porsche direct. The Leicester branch has a nice gt3 with Ceramic brakes and recaro seats. same book price and will have 2 year Porsche warranty which is worth £2600..... no brainer I guess. Or maybe just get another 996 gt3 and not have to have any finance!!

a nice dilemma to be in, a dilemma all the same!!

Bradford is a very strange place.

Tons of top end motors there, driven by young lads who don't seem to be in full time employment.

Said youngsters often drive these top end cars without insurance (many have lost their licences in the past or have points which coupled with post code simply make them uninsurable).

Hence you see a lot of cars that would be cat c / d! repaired 'off the record'?

Simple rule of thumbs with cars - if its liverpool, manchester, bradford, newcastle, nottingham, birmingham or london you can save yourself a lot of time by not bothering.

Yes good honest cars may exist - but who has the time to find them these days - bradford is the worst of them all in my experience.

Steve Singh, I think that is the most ridiculous thing I have read on this forum for quite some time. Not only have you ruled out possibly 80% of cars that would be of interest but the undertones implied by such a statement would leave people thinking that it was written by a bigoted fool.
BTW it is Liverpool, Manchester etc starting with a capital!

I looked at the car 3 years ago when the second owner was selling it, after i saw it i discovered the story
he bought it from a salvage dealer on ebay, and it had no service book, and had been damaged on a trackday but no insurance claim made.
it had been painted poorly down both sides, filler or sanding marks in the roof , on the rear nearside corner, non genuine rear bootlid/spoiler, i thought it had a new rear wing, interior trim not fitting properly around the b post,
the car was briefly at Ferrarin specialist on sale or return ( 2days, before he spotted the damage) then to Hendon way Motors on SOR, then the owner sold it to one of the Sytner buyers who took it to Porsche Mid Sussex, who when they put it on a ramp, discovered the front suspension was held on by one bolt, i imagine they put the car through a car auctionas it appeared at Car Solutions in Lincoln and then Keighleigh trade centre, I think i ve been offered it at least 5 times over the past few years.
Remember the car well as the second owner threatened to sue me as he was trying to sell the car to a trader who offred it to me before he bought it and i told him not to bother going to look at it,
