Wow! So you are saying that a Gen I looks dated when parked next to a Gen II? What do you see as the major external differences then? scratchchin

I have to agree with Toby that the Gen 2 rear is well worth it IMO, I have done this myself and know a few who have the dectanes and they look crap in comparison!

Can you post a pic so we can see the change?

Don't like those lights at all. I'm reminded of the aftermarket lights fitted to Golfs and the like or those aping the Lexus lights of a decade ago.

The Gen 2 lights do look better but they are bundles for what they are. The Gen 2 sidelights look good as well.

Conversely, a few years ago everyone wanted rid of amber indicators on Boxsters and 996's. a few years on I think the Amber's now look better. The originality appeals to me and I suspect more than few others.

The Dectane lights are not like some aftermarket 'Lexus' style lights, they look pretty much identical to gen2 models. Even an OPC salesman thought my car was a gen2 model!

Thanks for pics.
So the bumper is same styling as old one, just reshaped 'holes' for the lights.
So are te new lights official Porsche parts gen 2?

I love the gen 2 rear, would definitely be doing it if I owned one.

Keep all the original stuff in the event that you sell it privately at a later date, good to reassure the buyer there was nothing suspicious about it.

Also the holes for the exhaust tips are larger.

The light's are Porsche, they come in clear or red.

I must admit that spoiler just doesn't look right. But each to their own

....and I cant really comment on chavvy I drive round in a bright orange porsche with the model name written down the side. May as well get KENWOOD stuck in the windscreen smile

I must be in a minority as I prefer the 7 Gen 1 rear lights over the fancy shaped Gen 2's - they always looked like a change for change sake to me - sort of thing Citroen might do?

They should have been LED though, about 5 yrs behind the M3, which was a late adopter.

Jokes aside!

It's always gonna be hard for all of us to like the same thing I guess.

As they say Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Some people will like dectane's some people wont, some peeps will like clear lenses some prefer red or smoked.

Tbh it's great we like different part's looks etc etc otherwise it would be a boring car world/real world if everything is or was the same!!!

Those lights look horiffic, fortunately the comedy spoiler distracts from them.

Saw a silver 7.1 Carrera late last night with aerokit last night sporting those Dectane lights. From a distance they are very bright. But the red ring of leds are narrower than on a 7.2, and it is obvious they are a non-Porsche aftermarket. Good effort, but I think the standard 7.1 lights look better on a 7.1.

Gen 2 lights definitely make the car look newer (and therefore more expensive) but I think that's a temporary thing.

There are a couple of 3.2 Carreras in the classifieds which have been 'facelifted' to look like a 964. Seems like a strange thing to do now, right? Because both cars are respected in their own right. I think in time it will be the same with the gen1/2 997.
