Porsche Cayenne with 10k budget?
Discussion
It really depends on when the next service is due. I bought mine in march and it was serviced before I took delivery. The intervals are two years so next one isnt until march 2014. I paid 40 pound for an mot 3 weeks ago, and 900 pound for new tyres in May other than that its fuel costs which can be a lot depending on driving mine is a 4.5 I paid 12k for it but I'm selling now for 9.5k so ill take a loss but needs must. As long as the essentials are done the costs can be low.
Gave my insurers a call yesterday to get a rough quote for a 2003 4.5S, value approx £9k. They got back to me this afternoon.
The actual quote isn't really relevant since insurance cost varies pretty wildly for all of us. The significant point though was that a years insurance would be about the same as.... the Ferrari 348 I've just sold.
I suppose in some ways that's not so surprising - both are group 20. Ferrari was garaged, classic policy, 6k miles a year vs Cayenne parked on driveway, 9k miles a year - and I guess not quite classic since it's less than 10 years old. But there is quite a significant difference in the value of the cars.
I think this has basically put me off the whole idea. I fancied one as a practical, comfortable, cheap (to buy) run around that I didn't really care too much about keeping pristine, or where I parked it in busy car parks etc. Fuel costs I could have lived with. But with similar costs of insurance, road tax, tyres etc. - the difference in running costs between the Cayenne and my late 348 is beginning to look pretty small, even if it exists. Although I'm sure a Cayenne is a decent car, and vastly more practical than the 348 was (and I'd certainly use it in a much greater mix of weathers) - I can't make any logical sense of spending the same to run a daily hack as I was to run a Ferrari.
So, I think I probably need to be sensible and stick with a one car (which was the plan when I sold the 348). Shame - would have liked to try one.

So much for being sensible.....
Went to see a sub-£10k (4.5S) Cayenne on Saturday. Seemed like a pretty good car - had the major mechanicals / weak points all sorted recently. Had the options I wanted (air + heated seats), decent service history and a new MOT.
Still wasn't convinced I needed one, so set a max I was willing to pay and decided to let that determine whether I bought or not. Offered a bit less than my max, but had to up the offer to my limit and that secured the deal.
Pick it up on Wednesday evening. Still not sure this was a sensible thing to do - there is light snow down here this morning, and my 996 turbo just shrugs it off. But looking forward to giving it a try - hope they're as good as people have been saying they are!

Unfortunately, the ad disappeared a few days before I viewed it. I think it's probably because the seller renewed the MOT so I think he probably edited it. Whether the update is waiting review and will re-appear, or has now been removed I'm not sure.
There was a link to another site with more photos in the ad, but I can't remember what it was!
But the details are :
53 plate 4.5S, grey exterior / black interior, 81k miles, new tyres all round a couple of thousand miles ago (all looked pretty new, with even wear so far), new MOT, last service fairly recent, drive shaft / coil packs / coolant pipes all done in the last year.
Parking sensors front and rear, heated seats / steering wheel, air suspension, multifunction steering wheel, memory seats etc.
I believe there is an unused tow bar included. Car has 18" wheels - seller has 20" too, but we haven't discussed whether they are included in the sale. Would be nice, since I could chuck winter tyres on them I guess - but since I was fairly inflexible on price I'll understand if he wants to sell them separately.

I have just had to reduce mine due to a time waster. Have a lookThere was a link to another site with more photos in the ad, but I can't remember what it was!

Mental running costs i looked into buying one a couple of years ago and couldn't justify plus i didn't want the worry of the little irritating electrical problems and other issues on the older ones especially if you're buying on a budget
I bought a Touareg in the end as i favoured a diesel. I have since got rid of that aswell 21-22mpg my missus was getting and thats a diesel!!
A friend of mine has a 3.2 KN and he gets 12-15mpg
