I just got back from a 250 mile round trip in mine. On the way down, it was mostly motorway - decided to play with the suspension and set it to comfort mode but really didn't like that. Motorways still have bends and in comfort mode they were unpleasant - suspension was just too soft. Although to be fair, it was pretty much how I would expect a big 4x4 to handle.

Tried a bit of sport mode too, but on a bumpy road you sure do feel the difference!

On the way back, I missed the turn off for the M23 (too used to going cross country when I'm in the turbo) so I figured - oh well, we'll see what it can do on twisty roads....

What an odd experience. The roads were often dry, and there was very little traffic - but it's a strange experience to be accelerating out of a bend in manual mode with the V8 making a lovely noise in such a big car. Especially when there is snow on the grass verges. In fact, common sense got the better of me once or twice and I remembered I was in a very large heavy car, with an indicated outside temp of -4! It never really felt like that though - I'm looking forward to a bit of milder dry weather - while it will never be s sports car it still promises to be a lot of fun when it needs to be.

But people weren't kidding about them being thirsty!

Very funny. In fact Cayennes have been more and more regular and from talking to customers most have bought becuase of the price - even with the poor fuel consumption the overall cost of ownership is pretty good.

My wife has been driving me nuts to buy her one since I now have several Porsches. You just have to find the right one - looked at a turbo last week but was misfiring on Cylinder 4 which is potentially ( if not coil or plug) a sign of engine problems.

You really should see the trade prices on these - amazing!

Well like anything it is going to depend very much on
- service due?
- tyres required?
- any Carden shaft issues?
- parking sensors?
- coolant pipes?

But since on this thread the car in question is an S model, something around 6k with 100k mileage tops. 05/06 years commanding a premium even with more mileage.

Trouble is prep could be a few K especially with tyres etc.

Actually think that the general price of Cayennes on the Ph adverts is several K above compared to other outlets. There is a lot of supply at the moment IMO but I think that a lot of people are chasing a car for maximum 10k. From what I have seen good ones at 10k are selling very quickly.

Someone also got themselves a bargain last month - 0707 model S with 70000 miles - owner took just 12k cash - I was a day late banghead - was then advertised for 19k and sold!

I've got an 06, lots of toys and its fantastic.

I will always have a cayenne on the drive, just browsing the boxsters to replace the one I sold a few years ago.

For 10k its a no brainer, so cheap for what you get.

I was determined to keep my budget well under £10k when I bought (although sadly, I didn't get anywhere near £6k!). There are practical reasons why it's useful to have something other than my turbo this year but it really didn't need to be a Cayenne, so I wasn't convinced it was a sensible choice.

But I am far more impressed with it than I expected to be - so much so, I do regret a little bit that I didn't buy a newer one!

Sorry I should have followed that up with I paid quite a chunk more than 10k for it.

I was lucky as the chap who owned it before was a Director and it was a company car, so it went in for everything.

I'm not a fast driver, bit of a motorway cruiser to be honest, so I didn't at the time feel the need for the turbo.

However, at todays prices I would just go for the best spec you can. I do mostly town driving at the moment and I looked at my trip computer......12.1 mpg. However, this is cold starts and cold stops so it isn't getting a run. I would say 20mpg or so is what most would experience.

My sub-£10k Cayenne is costing me a few pennies.

Windscreen wipers smeared a bit, so ordered a new set (front and rear) and replaced at the weekend.

Bought a battery yesterday - didn't really have any problem with the old one, but I felt it was turning over fairly slowly when starting (although it always starts very quickly). Checked the voltage and it was only 11.9v so decided I'd prefer replacing with new so I've got no worries if I don't use it for a few days.

Passenger window regulator snapped this morning. Typical - my turbo did that just before Christmas on drivers side but it looks like it's a LOT harder to replace one in the Cayenne.

Still need to get my boot struts done (was given new ones with the car).

I don't think my driver side seat heating is working - passenger is. Maybe a relay, but bet it's the element. Steering wheel heats though, which is good.

And probably the most serious - LHS is slightly lower then RHS when the car is resting. I didn't see this when I viewed the car (it was parked half up the kerb) which is a major oversight on my part. Guess something is up with the air suspension.

Car is booked into 9E next week. Those are the things I know about - guess they'll find some more, and I suspect I will then be looking at a £10k-plus car. But at least it will hopefully be sorted.

Mine seems to have cured it's suspension problem today - looks totally level. Makes me think it's probably a dodgy sensor rather than a leak.

Got stuck on the M25 last week which meant my 90 mile journey took 2.5 hours. Had a positive effect on fuel economy though - I just filled up but still had 1/4 tank left after 275 miles.

Dension fitted this morning. Originally, I had no text - which made it fairly useless. I did try changing source to GW UI which didn't seem to make any difference, but I don't think it was really changing. Found an old post which pointed out you have to hold down the "next" button to select things, and that made all the difference.

Not sure I'd call the user interface all that logical... but it does basically work, and as long as you use ABC search it's not so bad. And it will be a big improvement over a CD changer that doesn't recognise most CDs!

For anybody else considering a sub-£10k Cayenne, take it from me - make sure you get it checked over carefully before buying!

Dropped mine off at 9E yesterday. I've mentioned the few things I knew needed sorting (window regulator, suspension slightly uneven sometimes, boot struts). Turns out the list is quite a bit longer than that. Let's just say that for what I paid, plus the repair bill - I could have bought something around 4 years newer with a lot less miles, and a lot less problems.

Partly this is my fault - I arranged to see the car about 5 days in advance, and by the time I did view it I'd pretty much decided I wouldn't buy one. Hence I didn't really check it over properly myself. Even if I had though, I wouldn't have noticed all of the issues myself. Proves how valuable a good PPI can be.

On a positive note - at least I know the car is the best place it could be for this work, and at least I'll be confident it's been taken care of once I get it back. So an expensive lesson, but hopefully one that ends up with a pretty sorted car for a few years to come.

Luke.
