Rimkah, amazing that you have had all 3 including the S - can I ask why you got rid ? Would you say the difference between standard gen II and S is significant speed wise or is it more about the whole experience, noise etc ?

Based on your posts in this thread, I think you will regret not getting an S if you went for one of the earlier Turbos. With regards to noise, yes the 7.2TurboS is significantly more orchestral when you decide to hoof it and deploy the afterburners...

Turbo s all the way if you can stretch to it, monumental performance, especially off the line and very easy and docile enough to use everyday.

Thanks guys, any owners of the gen II and S have good / bad things about the centre lock wheels? Visually they are great design etc but heard of issues with them and a potential recall tho I'm not sure if this limited to gt3 owners only? What does one do with a flat tire if without tools and are these supplied as standard. Apologies if asking a v. Obvious question!

And surely all Porsches benefit from the racing development.
I suppose you could argue that all Porsches have benefited from racing in some way or other.

But the 9A1 engine was designed for the road only. The mezger was always a racing engine, which is why it is strong enough to take more power in its stride.

I've had Centre Locks - no issues, think there was an 'inspection' that took place at the annual service and received a clean bill of health. I believe they changed the torque settings. I never have any reason to remove my wheels.

Only had a gen 2 turbo S.

Started with 996 felt dated then bought 997 gen 1 turbo which I loved until I test drove gen 2 turbo S.

Only changed as I wanted a bigger car so got a panny S
