Wow, scary reading sum of those links.

Thing is some of them are from 2007! . I've run a check on the car and says it's not a write off or any thing flagged up. Even spoken to fearnsport about it where it's had some things fitted, they knew the car and previous owner and said in there opinion it was sound :-)

Also the dealer has informed me that I actually gave him £200 to much on the deposit, I checked my cash and he was right! That doesn't sound like a dishonest John to me?

Of course Im as giddy as a puppy Jack russel at getting a gt3 so my judgement could be clouded

You are definitely suffering from "shiny bonnet syndrome" ! It happens to many people who are in your position and like an excited school boy !!! Good luck to you , I`d be the same. With that extra £200 you have given them its only another £150 and you get Peter morgan or similar to PPI the car for complete piece of mind.

Did you check the rads , top mounts , thickness of PCCB rotors & pads ( and more importantly , condition of the former ), RMS etc etc

I post this only to give you a reality check on a great choice of car.

I think the car has been for sale for a long time as I looked at it in November 2011 I'd ask why! Definitely get an inspection done!

The 997.1 gt3 is a great car, I have one, get a Peter Morgan inspection done before you part with 50k or so, if he says the car is fine then the dealer doesn't matter, if he finds stuff that's bad try to get the deposit back as their description was not accurate and find another one.

All in all I hope it all works out for you and you enjoy whatever car you get.

Why is over rev so important ? Is that not what the limiter is for?

The limiter does not work when someone changes down at speed from 5th to 4th and selects 2nd by accident. There are many ham fisted owners who do this, especially on track.

This buzzes the engine and can cause significant damage.

Hi Noleb,

the rev limit protects the engine going up the gears, eg if you hang onto a gear for too long you'll bump the limiter.

The limiter doesn't protect against someone going from say 5th to 2nd, when they meant to go to 4th. In that instance the engine would rev past the limiter setting.

It's all recorded in the ecu. smile

I'd just echo what others have said. GET AN INSPECTION!

Good luck with it though. Lovely cars.

ETA - mtr beat me to it. Some people say avoid anything that has been badly overrevved in the last 100 hours. Seems excessive to me but each to their own. I didn't even get mine checked but I bought from a mate and have known the car for years. I may get them read in the spring out of interest but the car is a keeper and fit as a fiddle so I probably won't be arsed. smile

I would value the views of Matt at Fearnsport a lot Not greatly known but he cut his cloth on body work before he got into the mechanical side. Gt3 RS and cups he knows very well
Oh and he is honest.

If this is the white 58 plate car, it's been for sale for years. If it was offered by a garage with a good rep, then I'd put it down to bad luck, but married with the fact the garages rep isn't great it would certainly make me think twice.

It's a lot of money your spreading, I'd give it some though before committing.

Hey Noleb.

Some info you may find interesting sir! I too was interested in that car (not knowing the dealer history until a mate put me in the picture last night). I called and said I'm a cash buyer, what would their best price be? Confirmed one guy had a deposit but his finance failed and another was interested but had a part ex (not ideal they said) which I now assume is you), I would having cash be their pref and they said I could have it for £50k for cash - a surprisingly generous 5K discount! Said I had to go get everything sorted and that I'd call back to confirm later that day and he said first come first served.

Having put everything in place, including an inspection with Porsche Leeds they then kicked back saying you were on the way with a part ex so kicked me in to touch.

Fair do's but they were rude and didn’t want to give me the time of day TBH, said they weren’t willing to tax the car upon sale either and - crucially - said you were willing to pay full price and not want to get the car inspected.

Mate, fair play for getting in their first (some you win some you loose) but one petrol head to another, haggle with these feckers on the price AND MORE IMPORTANTLY INSIST ON AN INSPECTION!!!! It's been for sale for many many months and they dropped to 50K in the blink of an eye for me, you have to ask why???

I wish you luck sir and if it's a sound car enjoy!

- Slick

Seriously do not do the deal until you've done the following:-

1. Had 111 inspection
2. Had the bores inspected
3. Thoroughly checked history of that car!

That dealer has a very bad history of selling dodgy motors and really poor after support, its being for sale for months with no takers.

I`m wondering if the insistence of a PPI may make the garage think twice about selling it ( assuming they know something ) and this is the reason it has been sitting around for a while.

We need an update from the OP

Hi all

I'm really getting cold feet about this purchase guys
The man who looks after my cab is on holiday all this week so I carnt get him to go and inspect the car!
I've done the usual HPI checks and it's not flagged anything up but all the bad comments about the dealer has got me doubting the car

Hey slick, your story ties exactly with what was said to me on Friday when I travelled down with the deposit. You mentioned Porsche Leeds were going to inspect it for you, I was wondering how much that was going to cost and who you was dealing with? ( if that's not to much to ask a fellow gt3 searcher)

Thanks Nole

A HPI check tells you nothing!!

It could have been crashed and repaired, even by insurance, it would still not register though as such unless written off and any kind of crash to write of a GT3 would be huge. There was/is a GT3 for sale which was rolled, HPI shows all clear.

But a HPI does not tell you the condition of the car, only Porsche and a specialist can inspect the car to that level of detail.

Were just trying to save you money and a lot of potential heart ache, what if you buy this and in 3 months time something goes wrong and the dealer does not want to know, then you visit Porsche and they give you a close to 10k bill, highly possible with a GT3 by the way.

Just don't go diving in, plenty of GT3's on the market and 50-55k will get you a decent clean example, even potentially with an OPC warranty. Best to buy from Porsche, JZM, 911virgin etc. where they are honest and upfront about a cars history and its condition before selling.

The dealer in question has a very bad history, I'd not buy any car of them!
