Are There Any Air Cooled Porsche PHers Left?
Discussion
Crimp - Yeah as long as you stayed about as far away from it as that photo was taken from it was bloody lovely.
I was 25 or 26 and getting a bit old for fast Fords as they were in their chavvy phase. I seen that car in my local Autotrader and went for a look. I don't think I had the internet yet and just thought a 911 was a 911. Massive faux pax there.
Anyway, it had been all sorts in its time but it did have some nice genuine bits like the wheels and seats. It was a real sheep in wolfs clothing though and was a 911 only in sound and shape. Still I learnt a lot and don't really regret it. It was my first Porsche and it lead to better, more informed choices in the future.
Lee - If I lived nearer mate I'd have been over by now to give you a good go of it and have a look at the black beauty. Likewise if I thought I'd make it to a track this summer I'd try and tie in a meeting. As you know it's going to be a mega quiet year for me though, but if we're ever anyway near each other I'd love you to have a proper go of it. It's a big thing giving up a sorted bit of air-cooled, especially something as unique as yours, so the more goes you can get of the newer stuff the better and much as I love the '3, there are certain aspects it can't emulate.
We need to try these things though eh.
I know you had the GT2. I think the '3 would tick some of the same boxes but is a bit less sledgehammer scary on the road and has a better soundtrack. I get more excited about the '3s but that's starting to get into the irrelevant personal preference side of it.
Looking forward to the pics once those 10's are fitted. You'll want some proper photos done of the car when it's finished. It's a real poster car that.

N24 I'm still a cup mirror and Cup1's type of guy. That wheel is an iconic Porsche wheel and only pushed into 2nd place by the glorious Fuch.
Having said that a 964 riding at a nice height with a mint set of D90s on it is still a pretty thing.
Only concern is how it feels on the road with 16 vs 17" wheels...

The GT2 was great and at 650bhp it was an 'event' to drive. But I cant explain the love for the wide arsed car that sits in my garage and sounds like an RSR. Something about the shape, the smell the handling.I was 25 or 26 and getting a bit old for fast Fords as they were in their chavvy phase. I seen that car in my local Autotrader and went for a look. Once the 10's are fitted It will be a great look, Im thinking of going gold graphics ???
Im also thinking of doing a trip to Spa for a track day, up for it? Seriously I will meet you at Bedford or my pal can get us onto Millbrook....Its hard for me to get away too, the year before my son was born I did 10 track days. The year he was born I did 2!
Would love to see the GT3, I have drive a couple including a the 3.8 Mk1 that was at JZM. The noise from the cabin is spine tinglng! Its one of those cars that is on my list!

The gold graphics would maybe make the car look more "period" but I do love the black/orange at the minute. Tough one that..

I would have got a GT3 as for me its more suited power wise.
Its just the rear seat issue and the 2 little sprogs i own LOL
I always fancied a Yellow Mark One nice low mile keeper. But my issue is i can't keep them.
When i eventually part with the 6T which i love i will be going IB again and it will be 3.2c coupe non sport.

Most air-cooled owners are too busy enjoying their cars to post on here
Not that your average air-cooled owner cares what other people think of their old "inferior" cars ! One thing you can be certain off, they're owners won't be worrying about depreciation curves.
Henry that is simply stunning. This image plus the engine bay shot on the other thread have me drooling! Not that your average air-cooled owner cares what other people think of their old "inferior" cars ! One thing you can be certain off, they're owners won't be worrying about depreciation curves.

Indeed, I came from my Subaru to my 993, and thought it was so dull went back to another Subaru before discovering GT3s
I've had the pleasure of Subaru in the past as well as others and almost bought a Mk1 GT3 in Zanzibar but someone beat me to the sale, shame as it was a cracking motor. Had air cooled for a few years now and can't see me moving on just yet. Couple of my previous:5 speed 930

Like some relationships, we're currently going through a rough patch (lots of grief, sleepless nights and proving high maintenance) but I'm sure we'll sort things out and come out stronger the other end Hope you are enjoying it.

NB. The car currently runs a genuine Porsche Motorsport Momo wheel (and I have the original RS wheel too)

Hi Steve,
that there's a job I don't envy. Always worth the results though. What are you using?
Hi Mark, I used tardis (which is xylene based), toluene for tough bits and lots of elbow grease. I didn't go mental on removing every last bit of glue because I'm putting a light weight carpet back in. Nett weight reduction by removing sound proofing, trim and other stuff has been a satisfying 35 Kg. that there's a job I don't envy. Always worth the results though. What are you using?

very nice Slippy!
Hi Lee, how's it going ?Between you and me, I was never a fan of your latest build, but now you've got the correct 15" wheels on it, it looks perfect
I'm glad you've found your perfect car in the early 911. Seeing the pictures of yours makes me wish I'd not abandoned my FIA spec 2.8RSR build now.
I was amazed you sold the 964 after all the time effort and expense you'd put into it, but I've no doubt the build and website gave inspiration to many.
