I would imagine that most 20 year olds would think that an air cooled 911 was an old creaking pile of crap.
I've given a number of people, including young folk, a ride in my (21 year old) air-cooled 911 and not a single one has commented it is 'an old creaking pile of crap' - just the opposite in fact.anonymous said:

I agree, and then we will be looking at them with the same rose tinted glasses we now use with the 964.Progress .... don't you just love it. The more we 'improve' things, the more we feel we are losing something from driving enjoyment.
Looking at the new GT3. To me at least it's not a car I would ever want to own. I think most motor manufacturers are forgetting the reason why enthusiasts wanted to own them in the first place.

It is odd.. With the 911 being offered in so many variants there is enough scope to continue with a niche model such as the GT3 in its present form (or earlier). They've always sold well because there are plenty of enthusiasts wanting exactly this product.Just a thought - 4WS dynamically makes the 911 behave like a mid-engined?

Not exactly, but it does technically shorten or lengthen the wheelbase depending on what the car is doing, which can help the car turn more quickly at lower speeds or add stability at higher speeds. The system does sound rather intriguing and something more fitting to the car than PDK in my opinion. The 991 chassis does already move the engine forward marginally giving a slightly more neutral feel over the 997, so that coupled with the rear steer system it cold help the car feel more mid engined like. I guess it remains to be seen.APOLO1 said:
Agree on the 4.0. My 991S is much faster… from A-B. How ever there is big demand from over seas for these cars. I am informed that the 991 GT3 is closer to 500BHP than 475, so 485-490ish, and that the ring time is well below the 7.30.
That's interesting, the 991S is faster a-b than the 4.0 ?. Just can't see how the 4.0 is £100k better than the 3.8.Agree with over seas, Hong Kong market mad for the 2.7RS right hookers. Pushing market right up as import duties are enormous.

Paid mine today, quoting a little further than November and tbh would prefer March 14.
Had a look at the 4.0, too much for the car @ £180 IMO. Way too much. They have bids though and will sell today so I've heard.

Are you getting it stickered up with flashy red decals?????? Suits you sir!!
Ha Ha, catch up soon maybe
Paid my deposit today as well at OPC Leicester, they were quite honest and said I would be probably be looking at the second batch of cars as there were already people in front of me on the list.
Although they just have no idea how many cars they are going to get around November, I'm the same though I think I would almost prefer a March delivery with spring in the air.

Can't see how you can pull both paddles to disengage clutch, brake and blip, then drop a gear without re-engaging clutch first by releasing the paddles?
My take on the bosses explanation was that you can just use it to rev it up mid corner and dump the clutch to boot the arse end out - fun I guess, but not really a useful feature?
The feature is useful if you are sitting at a junction/standstill and want to pull away from more than idle thoughMy take on the bosses explanation was that you can just use it to rev it up mid corner and dump the clutch to boot the arse end out - fun I guess, but not really a useful feature?

On the twisty bits, my 991S is not that far behind a 12C, albeit approx 7-8mph on the limit. Just before the brake steer kicks in, It is within my direct knowledge that this new GT3 sounds more like a Lambo V10, on full chat, than that of a 3.8 Flat 6.
Please stop posting about the GT3 APOLO, you are making me drool all over my keyboard.GT3SG said:

With the wide body it's a bit like the 997 GTS. However, change of engine and gearbox alone make it far more than a Carrera plus. Add in the rear wheel steering I'd say it has a few (currently) unique points.
Again excuse me for being ignorant of the detail, but are the engine and 'box different? I had it in the back of my mind that it shared an engine with the 3.8SOnly the 991 Cup Shares the (Mezger ) Engine with the previous 3.8 RS. The 991 GT3 has its own " unique" GT3 engine based on the DFI 991 S Engine and no Manaul Box oer 3.8RS but only the PDK. I'm surprised you did not see this in the Press Blurb above Manks, not like you to miss things !!

I have to say I was reading all of the posts on this really intently with great interests on the pro's and cons of the 991 GT3 versus the old GT3's and was thinking yeah, get a 997 GT3.I was thinking that right up until I watched the above clip. The thing looks awesome, so want one.
