Itsybitsy - More info on the oil leak comment please. Full disclosure - good or bad! Ta...
PF
no nothing to worry about thats my point forums sometimes blow thing out of proportion!because some had an oil leak(crankcase sealant failure) others thought a good idea to get a full engine rebuild under warranty for piece of mind hence it gets reported on forums of lots of cars have rebuildsPF

The previous models were too small, IMHO.

Incredible.. If Porsche says PDK is the way to go, I believe them. After all this is a GT3, there is no better track tool.
Granted a different market segment, but It seems the much revered Clio 200 is also going the same way, no sympathy from the Renaultsport MD Patrice Ratti when questioned by PH on the dual clutch only transmission - quote : "call me when you've driven it" !!Personally I also love the manual GT3, but might actually like the new PDK even more, looking forward to finding out at least.
..What's the scoop on the electric steering on the 991 cars..?
It is still rack and pinion isn't it..? with a servo on the steering column providing the power assistance, and the hydraulic pump / assistance now gone..?
The GT3 cup cars were still hydraulics over rack and pinion, only the hydraulic pump was electrically driven instead of engine belt driven AFAIK.
It's not a fly by wire system is it..?, like a playstation steering wheel not connected at all mechanically to the steering rack, which would have no feedback at all, I can't believe this type of system would ever get approval as it has a lot of scope to go wrong without a solid mechanical link in the middle.

It seems they have worked very hard on the steering feel to get it back to being a benchmark - even in snow apparently. The head of gt cars at porsche, Andreas Preuninger, puts out a personal challenge to EVO (9:33 onwards on the youtube video) - "...if you miss the old steering when you drive that car[991 gt3] call me..."Looks like this will be a very especial GT3 car - looking forward to the hacks (especially EVO towers and Autocar) getting hold of it and the obvious comparison with the 997 RS4.0 manual and Metzger derived engine. Not for performance but against feel, handling and above all driver experience
