He does know that the manual on the 991 is based on the PDK box? Manual is virtually an afterthought on the 991 so he might as well have the box the way it was designed and that's PDK. I prefer manual as well but would never buy a manual 991 - that's akin to buying a manual Mercedes SL ... imho.

Anyway, each to their own. smile
You have made me a little bit sad. Is that where we are?

Are quotes like this necessary??

Are you an OPC? Do you work for Porsche GB?
I don't see what's wrong with this. APOLO's information is more accurate than most. There's more information available on the internet than being offered by Porsche GB. I would rather be well informed; I can decide what I choose to believe or not as the case may be. The only 'benefits' to most people in getting a GT3 this year are either bragging rights or selling at a premium - that says it all. I would rather Porsche started all of the deliveries from March 2014 when the weather's better.

Mind you, that may be torture for some people on this forum! biggrin

I'm sorry but I think so ... yes.

AP's justification about "enjoying changing gears but enjoying going faster more" is a cop out. In my opinion, they didn't use the 991 manual box because it was designed for PDK anyway so it was pointless offering it as a manual. Using PDK for the GT3 was a no brainer for them since all they had to do was modify the software and change out a few components. I even think that a manual gearbox may not be offered on the next iteration of the 911. I'm sure that one of the factors in some of the decisions was building the GT3 on the main assembly line as it's considerably cheaper; using the 9A1 engine is an example of this. I caveat all of this by stating this is just my personal view.

The Cayman and Boxster still have proper manual gearboxes. It will be interesting to see if Porsche offer a Cayman GT3 variant in the 'analogue' GT3 vein ... now that would be interesting. Not a 911, which is sad, but still the kind of car that many of us still appreciate. A car which is about driving enjoyment on the road rather than outright track times which are meaningless to most of us anyway. I hope that offers you some hope smile

@Apolo1 - do you have any insight into what the delays mean for later cars? My understanding is there was a planned production hiatus at the start of 2014 before things started up again around March. Are Porsche going to just keep the line going to catch up on the current delay?

Agreed - I'd already informed my dealer that if the car wasn't going to be here in December then I'd probably ask them to keep it and register it for me as a 2014 car at the start of March.

Assuming that more news is available towards the end of the month, with some revised timetable, people should contact Porsche GB and put pressure on for some form of compensation for the delay - not necessarily financial, but maybe an additional track day at Silverstone, free 1st service or maybe just push for availability of certain options - paint-to-sample or other options that were expected to be available for later cars (dare I say it - deviated stitching and / or parking sensors?!).

Porsche is doing the right thing by delaying the cars and fixing the problem 'properly' (hopefully) but it looks as though there will be a significant delay for some of us.

I've been told this afternoon my Turbo S is likely to be delayed and the OPC is expecting a bulletin next week. APOLO1 do you know if this is true.

It was due to complete 30th Oct, no idea to the extent of the delay yet.
My dealer (in Australia) said the dealer network have just been told that there are delays on Turbo and Turbos S as well as the GT3 delay we already knew about.

One nutter at work is thinking of getting a manual Carrera s with powerkit, pdcc -20mm, pccb and buckets as an alternative. Cost and weight would be issue imo
Why wouldn't he get a GT3? Because of the lack of rear seats? With a spec like that on a 991 the depreciation will be horrendous.
He's anti pdk, where as I love it.

Either way he wants a clutch to press.

He could always put a dummy pedal on the left and push it every time he flicks the paddles ... maybe that's the answer! Before we know it, this may be offered as a Tequipment accessory by Porsche at an exorbitant price! biggrin

Perhaps or he should drive it before he comes to any conclusion?

Spoke to my OPC today as my original spec freeze date was today for Nov build. Was told that we would get an "official Porsche" announcement at the end the month. But as no cars have yet been built then a planning assumption was of a one month delay to the build so my November car is now a Dec car! Which solves the problem of when to register it ....... 2014 it is. He gave me the standard corporate line about parts delay

I don't buy some of the more extreme posts with regard to delays caused by engine failures etc. Problems of that nature would cause some real timing grief with re homologation requirements etc. Its not that hard to make an engine that revs reliably to 9250 or so just check out the V10 M5 they are a solid lump.

We have had these delays before my 997 Gen2 GT3 was about two months later than first promised.

Mine is a white CS (its on the list) with white cage and steels. Am I the only person not to order a leather interior???? I am feeling a bit left out! confused

So no gt3's have been built, yet turbo s have/are being delivered but are now subject to the same delay, what happens to the ones that have been delivered. It doesn't seem quite right.

Plus it's going to play havoc with the opc's numbers for year end if people decide to wait until 2014. I assume they will hold agreed part-ex values if agreed.

Bit of a mess really.

I assume that they might reducing the number of Turbos being built to allow them to catch up with the delayed GT3 builds?

When your car arrives, the OPC will insist you pay for it and presumably that is when the figures are counted. The fact that they may look after it for you and register it in 2014 shouldn't make any difference?

As you've ordered the CS pack, then you're excused not having leather, as clearly you have a different focus for your car than the majority!

I'll take mine as soon as it arrives anyway, but it's going to have some impact if a lot cars aren't coming until Jan/feb. I know how the opc's get in dec for registrations.

Ahh Sidicks that's the nicest thing anybody has said to me all week. I forgive you all the stitching posts smile

Incidentally my OPC was very quick to tell me that he wanted paying in full "as soon as possible after delivery to the dealer" as his year end is 31st Dec. and he wouldn't want to carry the car over to Jan 14!!!!!

I am a bit pi**ed as I have organised the funds for mid November and will now have to sit on them at 0% interest until the car actually arrives. Any bright ideas on short term investment accounts? my bank are offering 0.1% woopydo

I heard there's been a run on red thread, which has in turn caused a delay in delivery of EU-spec GT3's - all the smart money's in red beetles right now...
