Mmm...not sure they are in the same class really.
Totally agree. Body kit, engine upgrade and ceramics but essentially what else? Also what's with the colour Primer?
If I wanted to but something that wud be a future classic no way wud I buy one of those.
It'd be RS all the way for me

I saw that one at Reading last summer when it was waiting for collection. Drop dead gorgeous. I'm not sure that these photograph all that well, compared to how they look in the metal. Sublime.http://youtu.be/PrkqaR8j5uk?t=1m27s

Nothing this side of a 993RS could be considered as such IMO.
They would also be as mileage sensitive as a Ferrari. Certainly not special enough to keep under wraps.

Most people looking at these cars don't have an amazing 2.7RS at home so they can appreciate what Porsche have done here rather than see "Its not an RS".Certainly not special enough to keep under wraps.
Also I find it funny that some people want to criticise it so much. Its not for RS buyers as Ive explained.

I know, but it should have been circa £90k new, not at the cynically marketed £140k. If it had been, then mileage would not be an issue. I don't believe people are looking at this as an RS either, it's not marketed as one, just a homage to several previous lines. Also I find it funny that some people want to criticise it so much. A GTS with the chassis/LSD and 5 stud hub options is essentially a Sport Classic without the cosmetics.
The Sport Classic is unique in that it uses the wider body shell with 2 wheel drive. It is also the only 911 to have the double bubble roof and as such was considered a new model and had to be crash tested for approval which accounted for some of its original price tag.
Porsche sold all 250 in the blink of an eye so we dont have to be the judge of whether its a desirable car or not.
AS CH said its for people who can appreciate the finer things in life and are prepared to pay for them

FWIW, it was someone from Porsche that mentioned that they were mechanically the same under the skin.

Yep and those that don't give a stuff about that and just want to drive the thing could get the same driving package in a not so collectable shell with a GTS. Everyone wins.giggle said:

Sorry, but that. Is wrong. The GTS 2WD also uses the wide body shell. What about the 997 Speedster? That's skipping the GT cars. I don't think that makes the Speed Classic a manual GTS with SPASM chassis, that's deliberately missing the point, IMHO.
Gentlemen sometimes you just want something unique .
Want a beautiful , rare , 911 size car to drive regularly when you don't want to take the Cgt or f40?
This is your car . It was made for a very small market , you are trying to rationalise a car that is about more than that.
I love them .

What annoyed me was how several of the 'apparently' unique features subsequently appeared in other cars.
Notably:
1) 2 wd but wide body - see GTS
2) black headlight surrounds - cayman R
3) ducktail - now an option
4) expresso leather - now an option
5) Fuchs wheels - a 997 option
6) grey colour - now an option
This left the invisible bubble roof only.
All very annoying!

Its pretty simple...
GTS's look nothing and Sport Classics look absolutely fking amazing.
Thats the difference right there.
So cosmetics then GTS's look nothing and Sport Classics look absolutely fking amazing.

Some people get it and some dont, thats always been the case however those that have actually used one will tell you there is something about the way it drives/sounds/feels that is particularly rewarding and goes some way towards the obvious justification needed to own one of these cars.

It may share some things which are now options, but go and find a model that looks exactly like this which has been thrown alI the options. I would say there isn't any out there. So what if you fit a ducktail to a GTS, you then have GTS with part of the body kit, but regardless you still 'just' own a GTS. The sport classic will always be unique and of course rare.
The appeal for many will be this rarity. And rarity in a package which doesn't have bucket seats and the rear filled with scaffold.
Ignore the price. It is pitched at people who can well afford it. People will spend 300k on a watch, when a £10 Casio will do what you need and function faultlessly for the next 30years.
I think it a great package and having seen a couple on the road, they do look special.
