Hi Guys

I'm new to the PH forum, but you lot seem to know what you are talking about when it comes to Porsches. I have a 924S that I was going to sell, but my 1st go on a track a couple of weeks ago has changed my mind!!

I know roughly what I want to do to the car (take out weight, improve suspension), but need a few more delicate operations performed before I can start. To that end does anyone know of a decent specialist in the Cambridgeshire area? If this helps I live in Ely.

I have said I know what I want to do to the car, but any other suggestions would be appreciated. Although I don't think I'll be installing a 968CS drivetrain just yet!!

There is a place in peterborugh called TWG who play with porsches, never used them maybe someone else has, i have seen their add in porsche 911 world aswell.

As long as the car is roadworthy, stop wasting money altering it and spend the time on track with an instructor. You personally will get far faster that way than improving the car. Plus if you ever sell the car, you still have the go faster bits in your head not on a car that someone else is now driving

Thanks guys that's just what I was after. It's weird that there aren't any nearer Cambridge as I can't believe all local Porsche owners take their cars to Lancaster (the dealer)!! <br> <br> Diver944, the car is roadworthy (just), but the brakes and suspension are tired and need replacing anyway. So, I thought I would take the opportunity to stiffen up the dampers, springs and possibly rubbers. I am planning to keep the car and upgrade it when the funds are available or if something major breaks!! (When previewed the page breaks are working ok, but on the forum its formatted all wrong!!)

Try Barr-tech in Cowley road, Cambridge, 01223-425300 Independant garage, they service Porsche, ferrari, and lamborghini's. Also do bodywork.
Run by two Italian brothers, they did a good front end respray for me.

You have the basis of a superb cheap trackday weapon in the 924S so don't be fobbed off with the "buy a faster car" brigade, the 924S is a great introductory tool and for a little cash and a bit more effort it will be a hoot to drive quickly and is like a mini-968CS.

You shopping list should look like:
Konis front & rear
Lowering springs (front)
944S2 anti-roll bars
7&8" design 90 wheels (or 6"&8" off a 964C2/4 and cheap as chips to buy)
List 1B tyres in 205/50 & 225/45, say Dunlop D01J
Braided brake hoses
Competition brake fluid

You can lower the rear by changing the springplate angles. If the motivation gets to you, gut the interior of carpets & sound deadening and fit a rear cage, two bucket seats and a pair of harnesses and away you go!

Anyway, Cheshire is not that far from Cambridge, is it?

Thanks Ninemeister. You won't be surprised to find out the inspiration behind this little project is a 924 owned by one of your guys (or maybe you) that was featured in last Decembers's 911 & Porsche World. I was planning on replicating that car as much as possible and was even considering the change to a plastic 968CS fuel tank. Apart from the cost of a used tank (£80ish I beleive) how much would Ninemeister charge for this work?

The red 924 that inspired you is co-owned by Marc (partner/bodyshop manager) and Miles (Paint Guru) and was put together with the idea of a cheap but fun track car after Marc found it all forlorn with a damaged quarter in a salvage yard.

The original engine expired a few months ago so we now have a new tweeked engine fitted and ready to run-in, but that's another story that I will explain once we have it on the dyno.
