Suffice to say, that's where the car was when I made the original post. They've got it out of there now, and will be using one of the recommendations on here. I'll report back, and thanks for everyone who contributed.

Autostrasse have shut- sold the business, parts only now, just had a call to say they can't service my cars next week.

"Paul Stevens" seem to be local. Anyone used them?

Just driven home from Autostrasse - final service and MOT for my 3.2 Carrera. Real shame they are closing, tho' understand Ken wishing to retire.

By way of note, Harvey is setting up on his own at Colwood Motorsports in Hornchurch. Possibly not the best location for those out near Colchester but thought I would pass the details on.

Maybe try Maxtead Page? I think pricey but at least you wont get the horror show I got.

Depends how far your prepared to travel but sometimes these things are worth the journey.

I now only use 9E in Surrey for my cars. Not worth risking anywhere else after what I went through

Gutted to hear that Autostrasse has gone frown
They've been looking after my Porche's for the last 9 years and my son's for last 4 years! Only four weeks ago since they fitted my Bilstein PSS10 coilovers.
Might give DSD Motorwerks a ring for a chat and see if they can look after our Turbos in future, as I understand they're based in Billericay, which would be reasonably local.
Anyone else on here using DSD?

Stubbsy, great Turbo you have there. Subtle mods must make quite a machine smile

Sad to hear about Autostrasse. They were good friends of mine back when I ran PCGB Essex in the late '80s. Having just acquired 2 Porsches in the space of a week, I was hoping to renew our friendship!

I have been using Autostrasse for the best part of 30 years to service my cars. I'm sad to see them go.
Not only was their work good at reasonable rates but they offered a free loaner which was a real plus point.
There are a couple of other places nearby that I have used, but not too close the guys in North Essex.
In Hutton near Shenfield there is Mercury Sports and classic who promote themselves as a Porsche specialist. They will collect and deliver or give you a loaner. Their work seemed quite thorough and their rates for servicing are very competitive. They also service my daily driver lease car and are part of the Bosch service group.
I have also used DSD motorwerks a couple of times and although the work was good the pricing was a little high for servicing. Also if you call them to chat about the car be warned that the phone numbers are premium rate at around 50p+ a min.
In future, I think that if I want a straight forward service it will go to Mercury, but anything a bit more specialised will go to someone who knows aircools in particular.

I used A/strasse a few years ago and they were a nice outfit, a good to deal with. My only reservation was their lack of knowledge for anything outside of the factory spec box, with most of my vehicles are.
I rate DSD mainly because I think they are a bit of an undiscovered secret in the Billericay area which means you book the car in with Dave, to be worked on by Dave and not an 18 year old trainee who is learning the ropes at your expense.
This was an expensive lesson for me a few years back at a well known and respected specialist of turbo's at the time and it does happen with larger outfits with high volume of work turnover.
What you see is what you get with DSD, and there can't be anyone more straight talking the Dave!
I also thought the standard service charges were reasonable.
I wonder how may Porsche owners that have jumped into a £10k Porsche have had a shock that the parts required for general servicing or repairs are way beyond a comparable used car worth £10k such as a few year old Mondeo?
These are high end vehicles that started life as £50-100k cars with expensive parts that made them.
As for the phone charge, I am sure he would want people to pop over, or book a car in and not spend half an hour talking about how to do a particular job or where to buy a certain item to never actually see them again.
His knowledge and time is as valuable as anyone else's and a few calls a day basically stops the workshop.
That is fair enough isn't it?
