I rang Dave at DSD today and gassed for an hour. He's collecting the 996 and I'll report back on my experience. Sounds like it ought to be positive!

I used A/strasse a few years ago and they were a nice outfit, a good to deal with. My only reservation was their lack of knowledge for anything outside of the factory spec box, with most of my vehicles are.
I rate DSD mainly because I think they are a bit of an undiscovered secret in the Billericay area which means you book the car in with Dave, to be worked on by Dave and not an 18 year old trainee who is learning the ropes at your expense.
This was an expensive lesson for me a few years back at a well known and respected specialist of turbo's at the time and it does happen with larger outfits with high volume of work turnover.
What you see is what you get with DSD, and there can't be anyone more straight talking the Dave!
I also thought the standard service charges were reasonable.
I wonder how may Porsche owners that have jumped into a £10k Porsche have had a shock that the parts required for general servicing or repairs are way beyond a comparable used car worth £10k such as a few year old Mondeo?
These are high end vehicles that started life as £50-100k cars with expensive parts that made them.
As for the phone charge, I am sure he would want people to pop over, or book a car in and not spend half an hour talking about how to do a particular job or where to buy a certain item to never actually see them again.
His knowledge and time is as valuable as anyone else's and a few calls a day basically stops the workshop.
That is fair enough isn't it?
..is this DSD Dave's wise words, or his mum maybe, or perhaps his best friend / biggest fan talking ?

Called in to see Dave this lunchtime. What a top bloke! Proper Porsche nut!! Had phoned and asked if I could pop in for a 5 minute chat to sound him out re future servicing etc. Spent over an hour chatting Porsches. Showed me round and looked at both his race cars, a 964 road legal & "the" 935 - what a motor smile Also showed me a customer's 700 bhp 993 turbo - anyone on here?
DSD is where I'll be taking my Turbo in future!!!

And amongst all that, he still found time to strip the front of my 996!...

Hello aunty Pat, the covers blown girl, Will knows we are relatives.
Pop over and we will share a can of Guinness.
Ron, Frank, you should know better!
Let your brother make his own way, he don't need us bigging him up!

So you own UV's old car? I always get confused about the origin of the engine...Chamberlain or Fearnsport?

It was Richard Chamberlin who built the lump.
Can't be may road going 911's that have had the money or development time spent on them than what James did on this car!
Can't wait for some sun to get out in her!

I'd also recommend Dave. He's looked after a few of my cars and recently did the top mounts and new front discs/pads on my gt3. He's super enthusiastic and talkative about all things Porsche in general which is great - although it sometimes means a quick car drop off can often take quite a while if you get chatting to him!!

Oh and he has an absolutely awesome 935 in the garage which is worth a trip to view alone.
