Manual would be my choice also!

Any issues or thoughts on these 2:

Been hanging around for a while but from a good dealer and I like the colour.

Hate the steering wheel (I am assuming they can be changed!!) but don't know the dealer and no decent warranty by the looks.
Both cars look fine but I'd want to put them through 111 OPC check and then put on Porsche warranty.

I love manual turbos, they give me and the missus something to wave at as my pdk drone ship accelerates past at near light speed.

Well, I guess it gives you something to do.

Having had my 997.1 Turbo for knocking on 4 years now, sometimes take for granted just how quick it really is....until that is I drive something else that I expect to be quick, but just isn't (by comparison) !

This sounded fantastic, but felt way too soft, disconnected (auto slush box), wallowey and most surprisingly of all, quite slow when compared to my car. I know the SLK is the "ladies version" of the AMG but still, with a 5.5l V8, expected it to be much, much quicker than it was..

For me, 997.1 with sports-shift is all the performance car I ever need (until I can afford a Gen2 GT3 wink). Actually even then, I worry that I would miss the performance of the Turbo sometimes ??

At 40k, these are a bargain but as said many times before, it's still a 100k super-car and hence, buy wisely and be sure to get a warranty as they can be expensive if they go wrong.

Drove a PDK a couple of weeks ago and really didn't like it for this car, I like to feel in control and despite it being a superb piece of technology the manual just feels right for me.

Still loving my manual 997.1 turbo after 4 years of ownership. Hated the tiptronic cars that I drove; just didn't feel involved. Pdk is much, much bette than tipr, and I'd get one if I had to use the car for my commute into London, but luckily I don't and the manual car is so much more fun than a pdk. It's got the best manual box I've driven. I'm convinced that if I'd got the pdk I'd have only kept it for a year or so.

+1

Sports shift manual is "slower" but is way more engaging / fun to drive IMO. Turbo does lack in the noise department but I can live with that given how much I enjoy actually driving it. If it was mute and had an Auto / PDK box, I know that I personally would get a bit bored of it. I would not trade the entire driving experience for a bit more performance....it really doesn't need any more to make it a better car IMO biggrin

It's not though is it....because then you are not giving either task your full attention !

Driving is one thing, bedroom aerobics another....both best done with maximum "driver involvement" wink

I was in the same situation a couple of months ago. In the end I went for a 2009 997.2 C2S in guards, PDK, PSE. sprorts chrono plus, amongst other things. I found it plenty quick enough, especially when you press the sports chrono, it's mental. The things that swayed it for me were that it was a newer car, and the interior is a lot nicer, and it's quick enough. I also wanted to extend the Porsche warranty after it expires.

Good luck with your choice

OP, have a 997 c2 , 3yrs in and still love it to bits but want to change this year so have been juggling with the same dilemma, I make a decision then switch... then another and switch again. From what ive seen I reckon high 40s to get a good turbo which is more than I want to spend but..for me it has the slight edge - rarer, power and a bit more special..then a gen 2 S is a cracking bit of kit, more up to date, cheaper to run and lets face it more than fast enough..arghh.decisions, decisions!

Another option is a GTR, Ive had use of one for the past 10days, took it down to le mans and have been using it as my daily drive since. Ive always admired them but had never really warmed to them so have been surprised by how much Ive gelled with it, its immense. For the same budget you ll get a much newer car than a 997 turbo with all the modern tech. Ok I get the service interval arguments etc but for the budget... nothing gets close. It goes back tomorrow so reckon its gonna be a shock getting back into the 997 though,am also quite looking forward to breaking out the pork.
