Had my 996 done by Centergravity back in July. Full of Frogs and Snooker balls as Chris calls them. Not cheap, worth every penny. The handling, suspension, is amazing.
Also have a 987 2.7 manual. My wife (sensitive soul) could feel a vibration at 60 mph. So, took Boxster in, Chris found 7 gram difference in his healthcheck.
Boxster in for new coffin arms & Geo tomorrow. Will be 60% cheaper than 996 but still absolute value.
If you are a car owner of any sort, especially sports, get to Centergravity. Money well spent. Doesn't have to be Porsche. Have seen Honda to Aston in the workshop. Today saw a Shelby replica. That had just done Goodwood.!

Are people really replacing suspension arms just to cure a little noise? I'm presuming they are mildly expensive in addition to the labour.

If it handles and rides fine then I'd just crack on, and I'm a fussy bugger!

Until recently the arms were pretty cheap. £65 for a coffin arm, £35 for a rear control arm / tuning fork and £30 for a front one. I replaced the lot as a matter of course on my current 2004 car having done the same on my last one.

Just had my trailing arms done under OPC warranty, without quibble - much quieter and car feels much more planted

How worn/bad were they?

They wouldn't do mine under warranty because there was no play in them, the technician said they were rattling but I'm not entirely sure this is true.

That makes no sense. There was no play in them but they were rattling? Wouldn't rattling be by its definition, play?

It makes perfect sense, if you are an official porsche centre.

On a test drive they said they could hear the trailing arms rattling but because there is no play in them they wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

Oh and sir your dampers have a little bit of rust on them, we can replace them while shes in our care for just £1100 smile

Yes you are right, I wont be going back.

Hi Technomad,

would you care to help me on how you got this covered under OPC warranty? I have phoned various OPCs (including the one I bought the car from) and all are flatly refusing to honour warranty on these items as they consider them "wear and tear".

Which OPC did you use? If you dont feel comfortable dropping the specific OPC name, please feel free to PM me with the details.. I'm having a hard time getting anything covered under warranty at the moment. Everything seems to be wear and tear these days.

My car is 2008 C2S with 56k miles.

The warranty is a Porsche Approved Used ("extended warranty") if that changes anything?

Hi all the coffin arms, are not available as,you have all found out, TRW have been purchased by SACHS, is my understanding. The centre bush on 987/997 is different than 986/996.There are Meile ones coming out at the end of the month,if you need any for 986/996 then Hartech have refurbished ones to fit, on exchange basis.

The tuning fork arms are in the same supply issue, and you can only get them if snapped or bent from Porsche, with chassis number and a photograph.

TRW have been bought out by ZF:
http://www.zf.com/corporate/en_de/press/press_rele...

Since then the supply of TRW arms has dried up - maybe a contractual issue as the TRW arms were off the same line as Porsche arms but with the Porsche part number ground off, who knows.

Won't help 997 owners but:
You can get 996 Meyle brand coffin arms, these are chunkier and approx 300 grams heavier than OE arms.
You can get Lemforder, Swag and Febi Bilstein brand forked and rear track arms on the continent much cheaper than Porsche originals.
