Hello all,

I've posted a similar thread in another part of PH but hope it's ok to add another here.

A lot of you may be familiar with Mission Motorsport (www.missionmotorsport.org), its founder Jim Cameron is Tankslider here on PH.

The charity is running a rather special day in September called the Heroes Invitational Trophy to be held at Goodwood on Friday September 6th. A rather kind MM supporter has donated the funds required to take the entire Goodwood complex for the day and we have free run on the track. The whole point of the day is to provide a window to all kinds of motorsport for the MM beneficiaries to sample. As many of you may know the charity uses motorsport in all of its forms to get wounded service personnel back into a place where they are part of a team.

We've got guys out on temporary and permanent placements with the likes of Aston Martin Racing, Bentley's Le Mans group, Nissan, Mazda, Prodrive and many more.

I work with MM a lot and Jim has tasked me with the challenge of putting together that paddock groups. These will be 6 groups ranging from 1950's sports and racing cars through to bang up to date supercars. That is the reason for this post, Paddock Group 5 - 50 Years of the 911

I need to gather a group of 10/12 cars for this group, so far I have 2 confirmed, a Porsche 911 Cup racer and Jim's own 1974 Carrera. I am specifically looking for a wide range of 911s from early through to bang up to date.

Would any of you be willing to come along for the day? To answer a few questions you may have:

1) There is NO cost to anybody.
2) Each paddock group will be given 3 (or possibly 4) 25-30 minute track sessions. This will be an open pit lane, do as you please.
3) Each car would be expected to take MM beneficiaries on laps.
4) Each paddock group really does have its own Goodwood paddock/garage where cars and service are stationed for the day.
5) That's it.

There is no requirement to go at ten tenths although you can feel free to do so if you wish, I know the guys in the early racers will be going at it like mad no doubt smile

There is no catch here. We are looking for people who are willing to give up their time in order to put some smiles on some wounded service men and women's faces. You can bring family and friends no problem, there is no cost for them either.

You will not be turned over for cash/donations (although they're always welcome of course) - but if you are in business and feel that any MM beneficiaries may well be a suitable addition to your business we'd be delighted to talk. The main point to make is that there is no pressure here, we are looking to put on a bit of a spectacular for the guys and girls, that's it.

There will be food served on site all day. We have a Spitfire doing fly overs. There will be a lot of press in attendance, TV and print.

Please drop me a line if you would like to be a part of this, I'm always on ben.williams@bjjw.com or via pm here on PH.

Oh, here is a sample of some of the earlier classes I've already filled up. These are the actual cars not just google image trawling!

If a Cayman S would be any use, let me know (not exactly a 911, I appreciate!).

Otherwise a good cause, so hope you get all the support, and more, that you need.

Thanks for the offer Jim, looks like the 911 paddock group is going to fill up rather quickly though I think.

If ok I'll keep in touch, could well be a spot or two in the last mixed paddock I'm doing, am sorting that one last.

Really appreciate the offer.

Here's a update of the '50 Years of the 911' paddock group:

1) 2.7 Carrera (1974)
2) 997 GT3RS
3) 997 Targa 4S
4) 997 GT3 Cup Car (very lairy smile)
5) 996 TT
6) 996 GT3
7) 964 Turbo - the actual car from Bad Boys - can't wait to see that!
8) 911 SWB (1966)
9) 997 C2S
10) 993 Carrera 2
11) 911S (1969)
12) Provisionally taken with another early car.

Gents, I've been overwhelmed with the response, I really can't thank all of those who got in touch enough.

PH can be a shouty place from time to time but it is sincerely heartwarming when people rally around a cause like this.

Thanks again to you all from everyone at Mission Motorsport, you'll be making a lot of people very happy with your kindness, time and effort.

Hello chaps,

Now pretty much everything is confirmed I can release the line up of cars. We are running 5 categories and every one is an absolute beast smile

Should make for a very interesting day indeed and I'll chuck up some of the photos after the event.

Again thanks for everyone's help. You may see a write up from Garlick or some of the other PH dudes as they're all coming over.

It's going to be petrol head heaven and we aim to put on a real show for the Mission Motorsport beneficiaries.

Just a quick follow up on this, epic day. Huge effort from everyone involved (and then some from Ben) and it was great to see all the cars going at it even in the rain. A GT3 Cup car followed 20ft by a Cobra coming onto the straight with the throttles wide open was a treat for the eyes and ears. But take my enjoyment, multiply that by 10 and you have the beneficiaries as they finished their pax laps. And that's what the day was about.

For those interested here are a few photos from the day (a little random as they were snapped in brief moments of calm from paddock duties)...

Mega mega day.

Dear all,

I am absolutely delighted to report that the day went swimmingly and the help (and offers of help) that I received from members here on PH was truly humbling. I won't thank you all individually on here but you know who you are and I sincerely hope you know what you did. Let me put it this way - every one of you there on the day helped a number of people take a step (or more) on their own personal road to recovery.

Our very own MM beneficiary Josh says it better than I can - your time and generosity put this smile on this face smile

A large number of people (including some of you great PH guys) took some formidable photos on the day. We had a professional photographer there too and she has opened up her entire take from the day completely free of charge. If you were there on the day and want some cool shots of your own car then the following links are all available:

Lastly volunteer Matt Biggs has put together a superb video giving a bit of a feel for the day. I particularly like the clips of the McLaren MP4-12C being closely followed by the '66 Lowdrag Shelby Cobra for lap after lap, absolutely incredible driving from both there, just as well given the value of the things…

Matt's video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLEieR6UBP8

Also one of our classic racers put together a great in-car shot of his laps with an MM beneficiary in his race prepped Austin Healey 100/4, that can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYKcWz1NFiU

Once again thanks to you all for such humbling support, you all contributed in a massive way to make the day go off as we hoped it would.
