I use these Michelin Cup 2s on my 993 RSR race car and they work well, much better by far than Cup 1s . I'd think they are equal to any normal tyre in the wet.

They are, have you used them in the wet ? I qualify that slightly I don't mean standing water, I mean just rain. What gives you grip in rain is two equal factors, water dispersion and compound. Softer means better grip, that's why some of those Uniroyal Rainsports don't work all that well in rain.

Bearing in mind the rareness of the GT3RS how come the dealer has one as a demo/loan car surely they were all allocated to customers ?
It's a Porsche GB car (not the local dealer).

Even better, please tell us how the new Michelins are coping with standing water. At what speed do you start to aquaplane?
??????? Keep us up to date where you can, but stay safe.
So sorry to disappoint but it's not my car and I'm not about to start testing its limits (or mine wink )

Apologies for thread hijack, but I've just placed you. I watched your gorgeous RSR competing at Rockingham on Sunday.

Also useful info re Cup 2s. I have them on my GT3 and was considering swapping them over for more road biased tyres (Yoko AD08 non-Rs) when the heavens opened up but I guess your experience says otherwise in damp (not standing water) conditions.

I spun twice on Sunday, once I swerved to avoid contact with another car and the other time I gave it too much throttle too soon. It was not the tyres that caused the spins, it was me.

Over 30 yrs ago I rallied a Fiesta here on our Irish Tarmac. I could only afford one set of tyres and was deliberating between slicks, inters or wets. The Man from Michelin put me right, slicks which he cut a minimum pattern in. These he said would be overall best of all. The slicks got hotter easier and despite their lack of thread the warmness made them grip better when the mere token thread removed some water. Inters he said were always a looser choice and full wets only worked in full rain and then only when the full rain lasted.

HEAT !

I run CUP 2's on one car and Super sports on my other ;-) and just done a full 4 day welsh trip on CUP's in the rain, not nice in the cold/wet mornings I can tell you.

Cup 2's take much longer to heat up, heat gives you grip once the tyre can touch the road. ie move water.

My pilot Super sports work much better in the rain, I can wheel spin the Cup 2's in 3rd gear on wet roads I cannot get the heat into them even after 20 miles !

ON a track . maybe you can get the heat working for you, on the road my PSS out class Cup's ten fold in the wet.

But yes CUP 2's work miles better than my Race Maxx in the wet which try and kill you.

I saw this today in the Classic Remise Berlin (in good company as you can see!) and it looked stunning in white so far the best choice I've seen!

There's quite some metal in there!

Did they offer you the other 3 or 4 pseudo PTS cols that have been mentioned on here - I think these are Racing Yellow , Miami Blue and Black ? I think someone said these had a 4 week delay ?

SportAuto supertest numbers are out, 4s faster than the 991 gt3 at the ring (adjusted for speed limits in place now) and 1.1s faster around Hockeheim.

Thanks for that update, do you have a link?

The gap is closing, 7 seconds on the 7.2 GT3 & the RS but so many variables.

Probably about the same as a Turbo S then running Cup2s then by the sound of it. Good news.

Now, I'm not an owner, so i can't really add much to the topic, but i detailed what we believe is the first uk customer car to be delivered. This one is in lava orange and doesn't have the 918 seats. Im told there is a bit of a delay on the 918 seat, which is why the owner got his so quick. It was dropped off at paintshield and myself and nick, who is another gtechniq detailer put 20+ hours machine polishing into the car, which added some much needed depth to the colour, as well as bringing the orange out more and then protected all the areas that weren't going to be covered in film, including the wheels.

Here are some finished pics, taken on my iPhone. The car looks better in person, as the phone struggles to capture the colour properly.

Great job - that's the first time I've seen Lava and thought ummmmmm ....... - I have seen Lava a few times , in real life , both inside and out , and though it looked like a washed out pinkie shade at its worst , not deep and rich like , say the old blood red / tangerine. It would be lovely to know how much colour you managed to get back into it and if this will last ?? Cheers smile

To be honest, when we first saw the colour, I wished it would have had more orange in the paint, but I can see where you are coming from. I think it will be colour that divides opinion, but the owner loves it because it is different. We did manage to bring the Orange out more, which was hiding under the usual sanding patches, buffer trails and swirl marks, but it's never going to be as orange as a Lambo. It will continue to look like that if the owner looks after it, which I know he will. When we finished, we stepped back and had to admit that it looks bloody good. It's certainly a head turner and that wing!
