Could some intelligent sort explain on this particular circuit why the RS is only slightly quicker than the GT3. Corner speed and exit speed I thought would have been much higher on the RS because of the Aero plus the added grunt down the straights should have manifested itself. Goes to show what a great car the GT3 is!!!

991 GT3 sure is a great car and at a bargain price. Love the RS and would have one but imo GT3 is the best looking Porsche at the moment. Sits low and looks sleek.

Yes. Factory is shut as we all know for the first 3 weeks of August then we're talking 4 weeks till by car rolls off the line. I put my spec in back in March and was told not to touch it. I'll have 918 seats but some others at my OPC will not get them - they've been told if they want a car it has to be on standard buckets so they can manage the shortage of the 918 seats and still keep the production going. To not have the 918 seats would be gutting - they're incredible.

Had exactly the same experience. 918 seats in approved spec, then told would have to wait months to get them, and as I am on Euro delivery, this was not on. I tried for a very, very trivial change.( the stripe on the steering wheel can now be ordered in body colour), but they would not even change that.

Totally agree, have them in my GT3 and they are best sports seats I've ever had.

What are the main differences compared to the folding buckets?

The standard (918) seats have a seat height adjustment. They have exposed carbon fibre around the neck area which in certain types of impact could make contact with your neck or possibly head. Ouch! This probably can`t happen on the 918 as directly behind the seat is a bulkhead. The folding seat in comparison has no height adjustment but gives easy access into the rear section without sliding the seat. It also has padding along the entire seat. In other words the 918 seat is made for the 918 and the folding buckets are made for the 911. The other issue is weight. Porsche can`t give me this but the extra weight of the height adjustment motor etc. probably means that the 918 seat may be heavier.
However the folding buckets do have built in thorax air bags so that must add weight. I don't know what happens when the 918 seats are fitted as they don`t appear to have air bags. Maybe they have to go in pockets on the doors. Like one of my old 996 GT3s

Beat me to it, but more comprehensive than I would have managed!

Would just add:
- I like the incline of of the full (P11) buckets, find it v comfortable
- I feel as though the P11 seats wrap around you more (almost like you sit in the seat more
- height adjustment of the P11s is useful imho (sadly I was born with short legs!!)

ETA: and the full buckets look awesome.

I can't believe you've got the 918 seats in a standard GT3. Thought I read it wrong then the pics - kudos! What was your build date...and on the basis that these are free on the RS, how much were they to spec? Sorry to prod but I've got to ask!

What would be interesting is to know whether the 918 seat has the capability of going lower than the folding buckets if required. The folding buckets do sit fairly low as standard.
I believe the 918 seats may be a little narrower across the base so will suit a smaller person more.

One thing though. I never have seen the option for the 918 seats in the normal GT3 well not in the UK anyway. The folding were of course an option at approx £2k

A second a lap is a golden mile in terms of performance. If you told anyone in motorsport that they only had to find a second a lap they would probably hang themselves.

For example my new car laps Fiorano in 1.23.5 which is an average speed of 80.28mph and 35.89 meters/second so after a lap if a car was a second faster than me it would be doing an average speed of 81.26mph and 36.32 meters/second so after just 3 laps i would be over 100 meters behind. To try and squeeze these differences out on the road would be suicidal.

The weight and horsepower of these two cars is very similar with only 10kg gain in weight and a 25hp gain in power so the lap time difference makes sense. To gain a second a lap at this level costs a lot of money !!Both cars are amazing and for 99%of people the GT3 will be plenty to be going on with.

As already mentioned a second a lap is quite a lot. However there is something more if you look at the speeds shown at the various points around the circuit. There are only three measurements on right hand bends/curves and on two of them (5&7) the GT3RS is slower. The only other place the RS loses is on the left hander hairpin (3). This might suggest that this particular RS was not performing as well as it could through left handers and is not as agile as the GT3 on very tight hairpin corners where its significantly increased down force is not really working. The only anomaly is the third right hander(1) where the GT3RS is a lot quicker which can`t really be explained other than variations in the driver.

Mine is a LHD car that was bought new from an OPC in Germany (so first registered here in the UK).

Subsequently picked up a [LHD] RS allocation so now debating whether to keep the Gt3 or swap into the RS.

The regular Gt3 with RS/P11 buckets is a v special machine IMH-and biased-O !
