At last, after many many months of waiting, my RS is waiting for me to collect this weekend.
I now have a new dilemma.

Do I paintshield the car, part of, or whole?
Do I Gtechniq the car, part or whole
Do I do a combination of the above?
Do I do nothing, and just drive it, and say to hell with any stonechips or traffic grime?

What have you guys, the other owners done?

The car is light metallic blue PTS.
Before taking delivery of my RS I used Topaz Detailing who did a fantastic job of detailing the already good paintwork. Then they covered the whole of the car including the lights and indicators with Suntek 2 protective self healing film other than high impact areas where Exel was used. I am truly delighted with the finished result and am confident that the paint protection offered is well worth the cost.

I used Topaz for a full wrap on my GT3RS - and as always they did a fantastic job! With the outlets in the front wing - the car will get pebble dashed! I'd wrap first - then drive!

Enjoy!
Now I've got my car home, I can see the very curvy and bulbous shapes that other 991s lack.
It will definitely have a wrap, probably whole car.

It's just stunning in blue.

I'm very happy.smile

I don't get the Topaz thing, I'm really sorry and I think it is a great business model for them. But detailing is 100% down to the person doing it and I would rather find the person who is going to detail my car rather than hire others to do it. Plenty of amazing individual specialist detailers on PH. It is also far cheaper. It is so much cheaper, that some customers think it is inferior, but you have someone more qualified working on your car.

I also don't get plastic film protection... I get the scratch benefits, but it reduces the quality of the paint finish and over time it yellows. Yes, yes the plastic film companies claim the film doesn't yellow, but it's the glue that yellows with UV light. So covering a paint finish in plastic and kept in the dark Vs perfect paint on show all the time with occasional stone chips. I'd rather save the money, have a better looking car and if necessary, respray the front end and still save money.

I go for the Ceramic Pro finish - better than I can achieve with frequent waxing and has my cars looking nicer more of hte time. It's also lifetime, but all down to the installer.
I'm not sure what Topaz do or where they are.
What I do know is
I have found a highly recommended Gtechniq guy to detail the car so that part is easy
As for film protection, my own experience is one of my other cars that is 3 months old and 7000 miles in, is now in need of a full repaint due to damage from stone chippings, grit and salt damage that would of been protected by the film.
Yes that' may seem excessive, but so was my driving!

My excessive driving was a trip up in the Arctic Circle, I did around 3000 miles on snow, ice and grit!
But the car has suffered, however, to repaint, front pu, bonnet, front and rear wings and blend in doors and rear bumper is just cheaper than a full wrap...

So many potions and lotions claiming long life paint protection against the elements. Some of them do smell nice though. And provide a smoother to touch surface for a while.

The factory applied clear coat is pretty good.

That's the great thing about life we have a choice. I chose to have my paintwork detailed, polished and then protective film applied. My 991 GT3 looked after 5800 miles as if it had been shot repeatedly with a 12 bore. The lower valance, wings, rear arches, bonnet, headlights and indicators did not look good at all.
My aim is to keep the RS for a number of years. If over a protracted period of time the appearance starts to noticeably yellow I will have the film removed which will reveal near perfect paintwork. That should coincide with the car being changed for whatever Porsche have to offer. I simply cannot accept that polish alone will offer any protection against the dreaded stone chips. I would also guess that a complete front end respray to include lights and indicator replacement by a Porsche Approved body shop would cost more than the cost of the film.
I should add that I have no vested interest in Topaz Detailing. I am just a very happy customer.

Spa on Saturday, this car is epic on track. Just wish it came on the Michelins rather than Dunlops.

I can see woppum leaving the pits in front of you - the distinctive colour sets him off.

I have never owned a car long enough to really benefit from a film but I did have it done comprehensively on the 991 GT3 RS for a couple of reasons. One - i intend to keep the car forever (famous last words) and second, the louvres over the front wheels and the resulting downforce sucks so much road grime onto the sides of the car that it is peppered with dirt after a proper drive so i believe its a no brainer this time around.

Spa was brilliant on Saturday some fab cars out. Viper RS, Black RS, Miami RS, couple of Violet ones too. Some GT4's (that sounded great). Woppum's car in the flesh is stunning. Seeing them being driven alongside the 991 Cups was a very cool sight. was a black 997 4 litre there (think WTDOOM's?) weather held nicely too - great day.

My local OPC had two appear on their Facebook page today, one in Violet and the other in Green. Anyone in here picking those up?

Not sure which one I prefer....!

That UV looks stunning, black seat belts better but that's a small point.

I feel very privileged to have picked up mine today from Hatfield OPC. I think I will have the GT3 RS logos from the engine cover fitted to the lower front edges of both doors, just to finish it off. Taking it to be detailed in the morning.
