Not that those of us who've had an LOI in for quite some time will get the chance to order one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LHD.....

Is there any info on whether the 991 RS really will be running 918 sized wheels...? 20/21 tyres are going to be a serious pain for a very track focused car surely..

No front wing "grilles" on the Ring lapping video, so are they merely "race car" (dodgy) aesthetics, I wonder?

Video is from July 14, so a lot has happened since then.

Disguised I think. Someone pointed out the grilles do exist on that car but were covered up.

a shame but it's true! It's damage limitation time and I am looking for the positives.
Pardon my ignorance, but what damage are they limiting in respect of how it looks?

Not trying to be difficult, I'm just wondering.

It's cool, I had a go on the previous page. Without wanting to sound a boar on the subject, the bitter disappointment from me visually is against a backdrop of ever larger 911's and dodgy rear ends, not specifically against any technology choices Porsche are making.

Porsche's lack of endeavour to make a true 458 competitor has left the 911 to carry the torch and the results are just not pretty at 1.9m wide and similar size for the aero.

This car is supposed to be the halo posterchild and I think its too bloated and too ugly to hold that torch, regardless of its efficiency/performance vs cost in comparison to the 458S. The Porsche team never needed to use the pricetag as a crutch in comparison to the Ferrari equivalent, now it seems to be the default response in any head to head comparison.

Using the Turbo bodyshell for this car was a big mistake imo, most of the pictures released have the car not parked next to anything else so, big question mark, to be answered once it is parked up against a 458S.

Also, could this be the first time Ferrari eclipse the 911 RS with their equivalent car? Unthinkable in 2008, this looks a very real possibility now. Evenworse, if Porsche restrict the supply of the RS to what Apolo is mooting, then it becomes a VIP's plaything and not a car of the track enthusiast and for me, this is possibly an even worse development than what the car is turning into visually, i really hope for the die hard's here that this turns out to be not true.

They are in the final stages of testing and I doubt that this will be the final product. RS is ultimately about racing performance and having owned the 991 GT3, the RS will be phenomenon! Can't wait to see it in Geneva Motor Show.

O dear,it does not look great so far,as for phenomenon!,what is 1450kg,21 inch tyres and brakes that may last a couple of track days.
As said porsche are missing the point, they will have to go carbon tub, lightweight etc to compete.
Mine may be for sale if it looks this bad and size smile

If you don't have a 918, then you'll only be able to buy the poster.

Lower numbers than 4.0 to be released to UK, so below 30. Last of the aspirated, last of a generation.

Strange you say that, where does this info come from exactly ??
I've heard not that low numbers, and any 918 owner orders will be additional dealer allocations.

smacks of only 132 991 GT3's for the UK repeated so many times, an attempt to talk up the market.
we have over 200.

I would expect over a 100 RS's, still a small number.

Production run of 4.0RS's was less than a third of the 991RS.

To look at, better then the 996RS obviously...but then so is an Allegro.

The drive will be stupendous for the track IMO.

Below 30....stand by it, as I would this Mermaid chap being Will Self incognito.

Its no beauty, but if I get my allocation, I am in. Bit of a brute, doubtless, but I cannot think that Porsche would release an inferior car to the 991 GT3. Given the stellar performance of that car, I would think this will be in another dimension.

I much, much prefer the aesthetics of the 458, I know not everyone loves it, but the minute I saw it I thought it was one of the most gorgeous Ferraris ever. Still, I have to try for the RS, but like everyone else, am aware that odds are long. We will see.
