Thanks again gents , 'Goose the basic(!!!!) price is around 650gbp
Weissach pack is 70 000 €
luggage set is 17 000€ (wtf?)

WTDoom - first off - fantastic post mate. Thank you. Two questions:

1. Is the car fun and engaging to drive at LOW speed. The CGT draws you in even when you're cruising. Would this do the same?

2. Would you spend the dough on this car as an addition to your CGT, assuming you have the wherewithal regardless of price? (CGT I agree is just about the best supercar of all time - the F50 is pretty fun too!!).

So a fair chunk cheaper than the McLaren and Laffa? smile

Makes a compelling case for itself.

Thought you didn't like the idea of this car?

Not sure if it appeals, heavy with a battery is not my idea of a supercar for me.

Good write-up.

The one thing that really helps the 918 are the fact they've added 4wd, rather than McL and Ferrari who think that 900bhp and rwd works...

Tyre technology is coming on leaps and bounds.
Add that to special diffs, and TC + stability and (with an effectively "filtered" throttle input) you can make it work.

The thestupidnamedFerrari will probably not have 900bhp. fkin exaggerating liars.

Jay Leno's posted a vid up on Jay Leno's garage on YouTube. I have to say the car looks and sounds sweet in the clip. Pity we couldn't see some of the finer details and the iPad screen thingy in action.

I still think that Porsche went out on a wrong brief 3-4 years ago when they first started planning their next super car. They thought that petrol was coming to an end and that the Green Party had t
taken over and closed all cities for conventional cars. They might still be right about the future but they got the present wrong. I have driven the 918 and whilst it s a technological masterpiece I cannot get exited about the car and can't completely loose the thought that customers of the 918 are guinneapigs of new technology. The 918 without all the batteries would be the real thing. But maybe that is coming one day.

Excellent write-up wt, thanks.
It is a very pretty car and beautifully engineered, no doubt, but I can't help feeling that these big, heavy battery packs are a technological & environmental dead end.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, makes great reading
I still have the original porsche images of the 918 as my MacBook back ground, and it's good to see that this near production ready car still retains those incredible looks
I think too that this is the best looking of the 3 E-Hyper cars from the limited exposure I've had

Nice girl too. Those pesky Germans certainly know what sells cars smile
At Ferrari, that'd have been a short bloke with a fag in his mouth

Great write up and it looks fantastic.

On another note, my all time favourite VMax experience was a passenger ride in your CGT after you'd come back from Spa, sideways in a CGT is just awesome smile

sorry , late to reply .

1 i suspect not , I only drove her on track . It was interesting driving it around in e mode , I got a perverse "tron" like buzz out of it .
But being what it is I doubt its alive as a gt at lower speeds to be honest .
2 Yes I think this car only makes sense as an additional car to owners who already have the " raw , drivers car " type vehicles . Would make a great do it all Veyron type thing too imho , the fact that it is a spyder really sets it apart to me .

I have slowly changed my mind . I was initially disappointed , I wanted a Carrera GT 2 . Then I slowly started to get it , its a different way of doing something . A do it all , all weather , comfortable , usable , very well appointed , fast , veyron type supercar appeals in a different way . They need to change things around I think , how many Carrera GT's can Porsche be expected to make .
Hopefully the 960 will appease the naysayers .

Im with Guy on this one . Although new tyres and tech have gone a long way I still think on REAL roads the porsches 4wd will really make a difference , wet or dry . An f12 already can get squirrelly so imagine a P1 on full boost ( turbo and e ) on a broken surface , greasy road with an off camber , its christmas tree central on the dash time . The 918 is a very well thought out machine for actual use , how many will actually get used is another matter altogether ...

The I pad wotsit is still a work in progress ,think it will be awesome when finished .

No its not that petrol is coming to an end . Mclaren , Porsche , Honda and to a slightly lesser extent Ferrari ALL independently of each other created very similar cars with very similar technology . Coincidence ?
Also Shanghai , LA and a lot of european cities are making Zero or restricted emissions noises , I think theres more to it than that .
If you want a 918 without the batteries , its been out there for 10 years matey .
Enjoy

I feared as much too, apparently the 918 battery systems have 9 year warranty and are upgradable as technology improves .

No worries mate my pleasure .
She was surprisingly gorgeous . Very 3d , curvy , swoopy , low and handsome . She was much lovelier than I remembered ( THE CAR I MEAN !).
