Thre was a 996 GT2 CS for sale recently in this spec on an 02 plate offered at £79k for quite a while,,,,
if it was a rhd 993 Gt2 CS it would be worth tens of thousands more.(easily 50%+).
makes the 996 version look a bit of a bargain????

Not for the shy retiring Porsche owners amongst us

No Glen, yellow is not my thing

CS, have been pondering the huge prices of the 993 GT2's lately. It hit home when I went to Spec Cars of Malton recently and saw the yellow 993 GT2 they have, very beautiful and special.....but £150K? Some of that can be attributed to the engine tweakings (550bhp ) but it is still a huge amount of money.

Engine 'tweekings' are not as expensive as people lead you to believe.

I have a Roock ECU in my GT2. Should be putting out 480bhp, actual is 418bhp and it's an appaling map.

Having the car mapped today, and with a completely standard engine except for larger injectors will be getting 500bhpish.

There are a lot of alleged Porsche Tuners in Germany (I'm not including Ruf I hasten to add!)that claim lots and offer little. I'm basing this comment on mine and others experiences.

I was under the impresssion that it costs big bucks to get large power from the 993 turbo engines....new turbos, cams, ecu, etc. Though the GT2 engine would be slightly cheaper to tune as it runs the K24 turbo, opposed to the smaller K16's of the standard turbo 4 engine?

Know what you mean regards some tuners charging a fortune to lift power a little, I suppose its a case of dropping on a firm that is fair though doesn't compromise mechanical longevity with its upgrades.

I must admit a slight passion building lately for a 993 GT2, but agree £150k is a bit stiff.

How do they compare on track, with the 996 version anyone know, are they more focused ??

Should imagine they would also be more than a handfull on the road too ??

Have to be good to make me part with my GT3 mind !!

My GT2 is an Evo so it runs K24's as standard so in effect I'm 'cheating' a bit. K16's that run standard 408bhp, 450- 480bhp should be realistic, and at this power without the need for different injectors.

993GT2/993GT2 on track comparisons - like chalk and cheese.

We knew what you meant John...on the basis that a 996 GT3RS is a very acomplished performer on track, would it be possible to retrofit the suspension set up on to a 6 Gt2 or are there other factors that need to be taken into account..

As you know I don't need to be converted to the benefits of a 993 vs 996on track,,,just wondered why the two Gt2 versions are SO far apart...cheers.

Paul - 996GT3RS suspension is very different in design and pick up points to the standard 996GT2/996GT3. A lot of the owners have binned the standard suspension and gone JRZ's.

The 993 GT2's are based around the 993rs seam welded shell, with a minimal weight gain over the rs. You retain all the delicay of an RS with the extra urge of the TT engine. The way I describe the 993GT2 is a 993RS on speed!

Several reasons why the 996GT2 missed the mark for me as a track car, too heavy, poor brakes, stodgy handling and inert steering. Just my personal opinion, lots of other people more than happy with them.

From reading the evo article on the black modded GT2 and 9ff uber turbo recently, the mark 2 996 GT2 has the RS suspension?

Could be wrong though.

Edited to say, reading the above post it seems not!

Thanks for the explanation John..I was pretty much up on the suspensions..I cancelled an order for a sept delivery GT3Rs and have had the experience of Mr Rance passing me on his JRZ...the main reason was I couldn't justify keeping the 993 as well.....the prospect of a "993Rs on speed" does appeal....thanks for your views and comparison.

Martin the RS has a modified C4 shell for rigidity...the GT2 has the wider bodied Turbo shell anyhow.

Hi John,

Just wondering who's doing your re-map? I'd like to see a little more from my 993TT, not that i'd know what to do with it, just nice to know it's there.

Anyone with a GT2 is my hero! Love to own one but can't quite justify (find) the extra £80K or what ever over my TT, especially at my level of driving ability!

Vic,

Drop me a line and let me know when 'big blue' is coming out to play again.

I'm still itching for that passenger ride, though not at a wet Combe this time eh?
