TBF, and for the sake of being objective, the aftermarket screens for the 997 are manufactured by Saint Gobain (Sekurit) who are also the OEM for this model.
In 1995 I bought a new screen for my 968 from JCT600 in Bradford, but when my fitter came to install it we discovered that it was for a cabriolet. He bought a screen from his supplier which was also made by Saint Gobain and it was indistinguishable from the original part, other than for the Porsche box and the missing inch or two at the top.

Eighteen years ago, but had Porsche warranty been an issue then, then I would defy anyone to distinguish between the two (other than from the discrete marks).

Some OEM stock has will have the car manufacturer logo removed by laser and the glass manufacturer emblem will be painted over it. Sekurit Saint Gobain IMHO edges Pilkington in quality and if you too the Pepsi challenge with their OEM and aftermarket parts, you would be hard pushed to find a difference... but this doesn't mean they're not there wink

Being in the trade also helps.

Sorted-ish, well enough for me to accept so I can go for a drive again anyway.

I didn't think National Windscreens could change the non-OEM windscreen for £130, it's more like £400. SO I am paying £215 + my excess of £75. This will give me a Porsche windscreen and maintained warranty. I am paying the difference to have Porsche glass.

Why it's taken 5 days to sort, I don't know but I won't be using Admiral again when my renewal letter comes through.

One thing that springs to mind is never buy a new Porsche with there customer commitment on honoring warranty's and finding any way out to completely wash there hands of any problem on the car that may arise that have nothing to do with glass replacement.

Got to laugh, Admiral called me up to ask if I was still going ahead with my windscreen repair.

I told them I had paid the difference as per the letter they sent and had just paid this to National Windscreens this afternoon.

She (Louisa I think) asked what I paid... I said £289 and you're paying the rest as agreed with National Windscreens.

She is off to check as was told a new windscreen would only be £130 fitted... Jesus wept

Her sign-off was a sarcastic BYEeeeee when I asked her if she thought the process had gone smoothly

Edit - just Googled 'Porsche windscreen insurance', good SEO for this topic

I love Porsches and the service I have always received from my local dealer has always been excellent. That said I think that a combination of Porsche GB's attitude, the terrible situation with known design issues (engines just for one) and the warranty thing has put me off buying another one for the time being. I'd love a 997 but I think there is a huge risk in massive depreciation with the 997.2 about to happen and the 997.1 have various issues and warranties will not be able to be renewed for much longer so demand and prices will drop further.

I don't think Porsche have done themselves any favours by turning a blind eye to these issues.

And.... fixed!

National Windscreens have my car, won't be picking it up till Sat, however they have been great to deal with. Can't say the same about Admiral.

Cost in the end was a bit under £300 including the excess. I now think this is very cheap after hearing about a customer at National WIndscreens paying £5k on an old Ferrari as it had to be custom built and the manufacturer wanted to make a batch.
