My feelings remain the same unfortunately. In fact, so dreary are porsches current offerings - and so uttely unaffordable is anything now 911 that gives the driver the remotest feeling that he or she is actually connected to it's driving controls, that I have sought satisfaction in a rather delightful little Elise S1 Sport 190.
I'm sure you're a great racing driver, but the weight of opinion is definitely against you on this!It doesn't make him wrong though.
I hope one day Porsche go back to the drawing board and make something … I don't know, like a back to basics 904

Nice one steve. Is it an oringinal SVA's factory 190 ? Very rare car if it is. My mate had an azure blue one with CF panels and the diagonal cross brace/corbeau seats.Still miss my S1 ... Incredible cars, what a great choice youve made.

Of course the weight of opinion is against him, Porsche know their customers.
It doesn't make him wrong though.
Is the weight of opinion against him,may be only by some journos who on the whole are frightened to make a bad opinion on such a car,and ph owners who are clearly biased, also interestingly a lot of owners have little porsche experience, its not such a big opinion in the big picture of porsche ownership. It doesn't make him wrong though.
I totally agree with steve,
I have never seen so many gt3 littered around the factory, plus gt3 employees cars and gt3 museum cars,gt3 in show rooms new and unsold, why?Do the germans know something we dont!

I totally agree with steve,t!
Yes, that must be it - they're too scared to say that the car is so "dreary" and has "no feel", so they say something blend and nondescript such as "the GT3 still ranks among the greatest road cars in Porsche histiry"....I totally agree with steve,t!
Oh, wait....

Oh, wait....
They are journalists, they have an opinion like everyone else.Oh, wait....
In fact, it could be argued that they are biased as sports car manufacturers are the ones who feed their business, they would not want to risk annoying them.
Having said that, the 991 GT3 appeals to many people, just not everybody.

Of course, and if someone commented they felt that the latest cars were less 'fun' (highly subjective) and they'd prefer to drive some of the older models because they feel more tactile etc etc, then that would be a perfectly reasonable and fairly non controversial statement...In fact, it could be argued that they are biased as sports car manufacturers are the ones who feed their business, they would not want to risk annoying them.

Seriously? You can't tell the difference between an opinion on the relative merits of different cars rather than a statement of fact abou a particular car?
I think you are being a little too sensitive regarding the 991 GT3I know people who HATE my car (997 GT3) and think its massively compromised but for me its perfect and I cant imagine parting with it.
For you (and many others) the 991 GT3 is perfect and they cant imagine parting with it.
Different strokes for different folks nothing more or less.
Having said that though, I am a little disappointed with the direction Porsche are now going and I can understand the frustration and resentment long-time 911 fans (owners and racers) are feeling regarding the 991 GT3.

No, I can understand that people have different opinions. And I can certainly understands that a racing driver has very different requirements than most normal road drivers.I know people who HATE my car (997 GT3) and think its massively compromised but for me its perfect and I cant imagine parting with it.

However, a key part of setting up a race car must be the driver-engineer feedback and that has to be based on a relative measure - does the change make the car feel better or worse than before.
Yes he might find the car 'dreary' compared to what he is used to, yes he might feel less connected compared to his race car.
But to state the car is "dreary" (absolute measure) and "unconnected" (absolute measure) is blatantly not true, regardless of whether you're a journalist, an owner, a random man off the street or a racing driver....

All reported experience and appraisal to do with ones senses is subjective. You don't have to prefix it as such or make a formal announcement that what you are about to say is a subjective opinion.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
