14th Annual Oulton Park RS day
Discussion
Good Morning all
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Steve Ellis and I am an active member of PCGB in R6 North Wales. I am also a lecturer at Reaseheath College, Nantwich, Cheshire. I lecture in motor vehicle engineering. Traditionally I take my students on several visits each year to introduce them to different aspects of the industry. One of these trips usually involves a trip to Oulton Park to spectate at a track day and obtain passenger rides from obliging and friendly participants. It has proved to be an excellent way of inducting the students into motorsport and track day type events.
In the Porsche Post guests are invited to spectate and enjoy passenger rides. I am wondering if it would be acceptable for the college to bring along students to this event? We would have about 30 attending at the maximum. At past events they have been excellently behaved and enjoyed lots of rides with likeminded individuals.
I will of course understand if you feel that this would be unsuitable.
Kind Regards
Steve Ellis

It's always possible to get passenger rides. All passengers have to sign an indemnity form, get a wrist band and usually pay £10 for it. The money usually goes the track day organizer but I'm not sure whether MSV will be taking it for themselves or giving it to charity (the RS day often supports a charity). I guess the problem with taking 30 along is that many may only get one passenger ride which might seem poor value to a student. With that in mind, it would be best to go and speak to MSV on the day (their staff will be in the office below the control tower at the start of the pit lane), to see what deal they can do for you. It should still be a good day out for them even if they don't get many rides. Please let me introduce myself. My name is Steve Ellis and I am an active member of PCGB in R6 North Wales. Timely Steve! I'm just in conversation with MSV and Cancer Research UK. Former say yes to passenger fees to charity, and latter say will supply buckets/posters etc.
Why Cancer Research?
Some of you may know/remember one of the main organisers for years at this event was Tim Newman. He has been and is extremely ill at the moment and it seemed only fitting to help out research into this terrible illness.
I, like many others, have lost friends and family to the big 'C' -only last week a friends' wife rang me to say he had passed away after a five year fight -he was forty eight and a successful session and show musician going places....
Please give generously on the day. All money collected will be forwarded to Cancer Research UK in Windsor.

Hi everybody,
Quick update, Stuart Garland from MSV has been in touch today to ask me for more information. The students are more than willing to make a contribution to any charity. They are all already involved with the college RAG fund.
I always have to write about every trip we do in the college magazine. I'm sure I can generate some publicity around Cancer Research UK as well. I can always ask the College to an advertorial in the local papers on the event. The marketing department are always looking for material to use.
I hope we are allowed to attend and I'm sure you will all do your best to accomodate passenger rides for thos ethat ask nicely.
Thanks
Steve
UPDATE, All approved, see you all in 2 weeks. Thanks

I can now confirm I'm not attending the Geneva Motor Show this year so I can be available for instruction. ARDS qualified, lots of experience of Oulton in all sorts of cars (but mainly Porsches), with good results too.
It's a long, technical circuit (with little run off) so coaching pays dividends in improving your technique and pace, as well as reducing your chances of an incident.
"There's usually more time to be found in the driver than in changing the car set up".
Ask on here for recommendations (Boxsey for one).
