Further to a separate thread Garlick is welcoming comments & thoughts on the recent changes to the forum.

Garlick said:
As I say, and being honest, it was more something I want to see work (to reinforce our dominance of the sports car community) as opposed to reacting to any specific request. I see other forums carrying the more technical and specific content and could see no reason why we couldn't accommodate that too.

We tweaked the supercar section a little to reach a compromise, and I'm happy to tweak here too. I don't want to restrict Porsche to one area, but I am happy to listen to how it might work to achieve a mix of what I'd like and what you guys need.
On the back of that does anyone have sany suggestions as to what they would like to see?

I'm sure this will be shown to be highly flawed, but if sub-cats are to stay then does this make more sense?

General
Sports Classic – anything pre 996/Box
Sports Modern – 996/Box onwards
Non-Sports – Panamera, Cayenne, Macan

Comments don't have to be restricted to retention of the sub-cats.

If you think that the forum should revert back to one section feel free to voice your opinion.

The only thing that annoys me, and annoy is a strong word, but if I click into the 'Porsche General' section I cannot then click the bread crumbs to get back to the 'Porsche' section, if I click the 'Porsche' section it returns all topics within that sections sub sections, if I click on 'General Gassing' I then have to scroll all the way down to the 'Porsche' section and start again.

It's not just an issue with the Porsche section but the whole forum, there is no way of navigating around sub sections without going back to general gassing.

I thought it was really great as one section.

I think it was worth trialling the split forum (and indeed I used to think it would be better this way), but it feels like the amount of discussion has dropped, which is a pity. I would favour returning to a single forum - there's enough commonality of interest amongst Porsche types to warrant it.

Which skin are you using?

I'm not sure exactly the problem you have, but it's easy to move around subsections:
- as you say, clicking on the Porsche section gets you all threads, in all subsections. If you want to get into a subsection, click on any of the subsection links at the end of each row of the list of threads.
- if you are in a subsection (for example 911/Carrera GT), clicking on 'Porsche' on the 'breadcrumbs' list at the top of the page (PistonHeads » Gassing Station » Porsche » 911/Carrera GT) takes you back to the Porsche section; no need to return to General Gassing. smile

If I'm in 'Porsche General' how do I go directly to '911/Carrera GT'??

If I click the breadcrumb 'Porsche' which is logically what I would do then I am presented with a merged list of all topics from all Porsche sub sections, as I see it I have to click onto 'General Gassing' to return to the main index and then scroll down to the 'Porsche General' sub section. Like I said no big deal but a simple method of switching between sub sections would just improve things for me.

I would like to see a 'GT Porsche' section and 'All other Porsche' section. The GT3 owners will then have their own area and leave the other Porsche section free for the rest of us.

There is no direct way, but this kind of makes sense given that you'd have to know of the existence of the 911/Carrera GT subsection.

It is potentially only two clicks away though: click on 'Porsche' in the breadcrumbs, then click on the '911/Carrera' link at the end of one of the threads from that subsection (this of course assumes there is at least one thread from the subsection in that list of threads).

Alternatively, set up bookmarks in your browser for each subsection you are interested in and have a single click to any of them. thumbup

In preference to how it is now to previously, how it was previously. It feels a little over organised.

Just one category was plenty - there weren't so many posts as to make it difficult to navigate. I have modern Pork, but was always interested in reading about the air-cooled cars.

I agree with the one category for all. It was good to see how it would work if 911s were split from the other models and I thought it might be a good idea, but it just makes the experience a little less interesting.

As has already been alluded to, there appears to have been quite a drop in activity since the introduction of the sub categories. Whether or not this is due to the change of format, I personally preferred it all under one main heading.

Oooh look, a single view of the Porsche forum with all the threads in it. Just like before.

There is no need for your experience to be any different from that which went before.

so why did you bother changing it then confusedconfused

Can't see many, if any, advocates for the new sub groups. Also, there are no sticky's in your image either. You can only see those if you go to Porsche general. So the experience IS different then. And surely you can see that there is less chat than ther was before.

I'm with you majordad, one forum please.

But you can't start a topic from that screen can you, maybe that's why it seems a bit quieter in here of late. Besides if we are all using that and doing as you suggest then why not just go back to how it was before, it worked well and was much easier to use, I love all stuff porsche and enjoy threads on all the models.

Edit to add there are no sticky threads on that view either.
