Hello

I currently have a 293hp lotus elise honda s1 but I would like to change.

I would like a rear center engine and a very low weight, so a light race prerared Porsche Cayman S (between 2006 2009) could be a good deal but how light can it be ? Keeping it barely road legal (means keep lights for example) and with safety devices (as a roll cage)

I'm not asking "how to" (I know how to) but I just would like some numbers.

Unfortunately I could not find an answer on the web whereas there is goog threads on others car.

If I want to change it´s because I'm very tall and I dont fit well in my elise. I already had a stock Cayman S by the past and they are great cars.

In France there is a championship call "cayman cup", cars weight 2843lbs (1290kg) but it´s not the lightest possible from far and it´s too heavy in my opinion.

Hope you will be able to help me as always on pistonheads.

Cayman R with a little bit of stripping perhaps 1150kg. Others on here will know better.

Hard to say.

you can fit Carbon doors, lipo battery, ti exhaust, plexi glass, Carbon race seats, and rip every thing out etc it's all about money.

weights not that much an issue with the gen 2 engine imo if you aim for 1200kg and 350 bhp.

but add a cage back in and all that has been wiped out !

you can even spend 5k on wheels to make them only 7kg each ! or 15k to fit Ceramic disks.

People on here are more about adding weight ;-p, get those heated seats in ,AC and a nice Bose system.

I know the first and the third, spoke to both of the sellers yet.

First one says we can easily make it 1100kg but I want to check.

My question still on...if someone who knows pass by.

The Hartech Boxster S I raced runs at 1275kgs [/i]including the driver[/i] as this is the minimum race finish weight allowed. I'm just over 90kgs with racesuit, helmet, HANS etc

The weight could be reduced with:

lightweight hardtop (not relevant to Cayman obviously)
carbon fibre doors (from Cup car)
carbon fibre wings (Cup car?)
remove headlamp innards and replace with small bulb holders
remove doorcards
remove dashboard
remove centre console
remove aluminium bumper bars (the crash structures that sit behind the PU bumper covers)
fit lighter weight wheels
remove boot & bonnet hinges and struts (replace with pins)
Lithium motorsport battery (£2500 though)
remove handbrake
remove heater matrix & plumbing
drill holes in suspension components (with care!)
custom titanium exhaust
me going on a diet smile

The car already has a full cage, extinguisher and 1 seat/harness, perspex windows (inc hardtop) & lightweight bonnet & boot, window mechanisms, central locking & airbags removed.

To I know Joseph : Yes I spoke to SVP last week, they say they can make it 1100kg easily and barely streetable (but it's what I'm looking for). Despite I want to believe them as I'm more of a guy who believes what people say (unless I know that I'm speaking to an idiot), I'm Doubtful. So I want to make sure.
I would be very happy with 1100kg WITHOUT DRIVER, they even told me they have a race car at 950kg !! but no lights and so on...

To The Goose :This is an answer I like. Would you be able to guess an approximate minimum weight ? Does 1100kg or less seems doable for you ?
Your rules says 1275kg minimum wich is almost the same as Porsche french Cayman cup championship (1290kg).

I have just started to strip my Cayman S. I am doing this in association with SVP, and will eventually end up with a road legal hill climb / sprint car. We are aiming for the SVP target of 1100 KGS, with a 3.7 litre engine. This will include a full FIA cage, 2 x race seats. I'll post a few photos as the build progresses. We aim to be competing in 6-7 weeks with the standard engine, then fit the 3.7 after we have run the car a few times.

Car almost finished. Ran at first event this weekend, and went well. Certainly lighter than standard!! Still have to fit alloy door cards..and seat for wife!

I have stripped as much as I can. Aircon pump, Aircon rads, Heater, lower dash, sat nav, all interior, except part of door cards, and all other trim bits. It has lightweight seats, new wheels, lightweight flywheel, sports exhaust, new suspension, LSD. Do all this and you have a much lighter car. But then I wanted a full race rollcage, as we are competing in the car!! Next winter we will go lightweight with all the panels, which should make a big difference. The loom is the big weight, so we will change that as well. I don't think you would get a 1000 kilo road car, but give it a try and let us know.

We got our NSX down to 1000kg; surely you can get a little Cayman there!
