Shouldn't this be more about what YOU want from the handover rather than hoping for a biscuit with the coffee?

I do recall collecting my first OPC 911 - a 964 from Swindon - the sales guy apologised for running out of film for their polaroid so wasn't able to take a pic of me with my new car, so offered a bunch of flowers instead - why he thought I'd be interested in a pic or flowers is beyond me.

Since then I've had the car's delivered as there's nothing of great appeal at OPCs...

If you play your cards right you may get to give Cheryl from accounts a good rogering over the bonnet of your new car.

Unfortunately, I didn't play my cards right and got diddly squat.
But then, it was only a car I was buying.

Oh, I got laughed at by the sales staff when I took the roof off to drive home, and it started to rain as I was doing it.

Was meant to collect my 911 on a Thursday but something cropped up , so I got the salesman to drop it off at home on the Friday because I was playing golf and couldn't get to the dealership afterwards.

Never been one for wetting my knickers over a new car handing over bks.

When I collected my first ever car, a r56 Mini Cooper S (the turbo on to be clear) from Mini Park Lane I was also expecting some kind of ceremony. Feck.. Had dumped 23k on the thing. I got it delivered in a grotty underground car park.. The guy had to drive it out of it as exit was too narrow and had to guide him not to have alloys scratched.

My nearly new 991S was delivered from north (OPC starting with a L) to London. I was sure would arrive nice and pretty on a transporter. 78k of car. Nothing of the sort, the sales guy DROVE it down 200miles. Arrived nice and dirty. And had scratches all over the back where they had removed 911 Carrera S and replaced it with 911 from the 997 series which looked completely wrong. To give you an idea when I complained about the scratches to the sales guy on the spot he told me he would have it looked into. Few days later i got a paint stick to repair it myself. I had to get the DP to get it sorted.

Other cars bought privately or from dealers not dealing with brand I was purchasing. So can't comment there.

So both experiences ranged from dull to bloody awful. I also wanted factory collection for the GT3 but that has been discontinued I was also told. So let's just hope they will do it decently this time. I am with you on the fact it should be a special day.

As I understood it the factory still offer collection but the tour operator that dealt with it for UK customers went bust and Porsche GB haven't bothered to find a replacement. So you're fine if you order with another EU or even US dealer, just not a UK one.

I have to admit, only ever picked up three Porsche in my time - all used. All of which have been pretty pleasant experiences. Ranging from bottles of champagne, teddy bears, flowers for the Mrs, through to free leather key rings. Full tank of petrol always gets my vote!

If you are getting fizz flowers etc you have paid to much for the car wink
As for geting a sheet( that has more than likely been lying around on the floor at some stage in it's life and full of grit)dragged over the paintwork, no thankseek
Turn up coffee, paperwork, keys etc and off and enjoy the car driving

Excellent, there's even a 40 page brochure on it all! I just had a quick flick through and can't imagine why anyone wouldn't do it if they could.

How much does it cost?
£2k?

Can get some nice options for that.

I'd still want to do a factory collection though!

I collected mine from Portsmouth OPC, I dealt with Chris Dawson. On arrival, my car had a silk cover over it and the car was roped off with a sign displaying my name.
A quick signature, selected a few free Porsche key fobs and goodies thrown in, a run through the controls at my pace, which was quick and drove it out of the showroom.
A great experience, not rushed, no dramas, most enjoyable. I've popped on a couple of times since for accessories and Chris always makes a point of coming over to see me to make sure everything is OK and makes the coffee.

OP - congrats. I'm in a similar position for my base Cayman... first new car, first Porsche, collecting from London (Mayfair) OPC and hoping end-April delivery. Are you Mayfair or East Ldn? Interested how much info you've had from sales since signing... been pretty quiet for me.

It's coming from Porsche West London in Chiswick who have been fine so far. The sales guy emailed me offering a selection of Reg numbers to choose from, detailed the payment process and confirmed the collection date.

Thanks. Sounds like I need to give my guy a shout. Let us know post-pick up how it went. As you said above it a special day but not that special. If I can get the following I'll be over the moon; No issues with scratches, etc., all the options present and correct, and I'm hoping he'll throw in one of those leather key rings they have on the counter.

It depends on the sales guy a lot, some are really great at the handover experience, whereas others just seem to throw you the keys and tell you RFM. Perhaps drop an email asking for it to be covered, so you can do the big reveal. Who are you dealing with?

Must be highly dealer specific given the range of responses.
I might be a bit OCD but I send a covered trailer in for mine, take them away have them fully detailed, geometry checked, and generally sorted by people that I trust. Any issues raised reported back and sorted then I am happy to drive the cars. Last 2 I did not visit the dealer at all in person no need. the whole dealer experience is one I can quite happily live without. each to their own.

Clearly I have chosen the wrong OPCs for my deals. Nothing more than a coffee and a biscuit for my troubles...... Oh and the cars of course.
I think that's how I'd want it, stuff the follow on texts etc. I'd want to arrive, pay, pick up and drive off.

If they put a rope around it, placed flowers on the bonnet or draped it in a silk sheet, I'd be very unhappy.

That's just me though. smile

I'd be incredibly embarrassed if I turned up to find my name on a pedestal along with a silk sheet over the car.
