What to expect when collecting a new car from OPC?

Third time still to come, but its a new car so interested to see what the difference is. No trade in and no finance so I expect it will be keys and told to vacate their showroom!
Third collection today.I now understand why they cover the cars and leave a little sign up with the buyers name... because as soon as they uncover it people try and get in it!
My Macan was the first for my dealer and there were a few sales guys stood around almost beating people away with sticks
Other than that - normal hand over really, took over the basics and things like phones paired etc. Took about 45 mins all in.
Fuel tank 90% full (even with larger tank) and flowers for the wife.
Neither expected but nice to know they appreciate our business.
Did not take any dealer products like GAP.
All in all - it went as I had hoped and we left very happy.
Ive recently, as in yesterday, moved from Porsche (996 C4S) ownership to V8 Vantage life. I went the Aston dealer route and in fact bought from Astons own factory dealership at Newport Pagnell. Turned up to my car outside the rather impressive showroom, right by the main door. All fuelled up and a bunch of flowers in the car even though the missus was not with me. Coffee as soon as I sat down and after I quick introductory chat I, my young son and mate who brought me was taken on a behind the scenes tour of the workshop, paint shop and Heritage area where there were A LOT of expensive machinery in various states of repair. Highlight apart from picking up my car was looking over 3 1-77's that were in there which at the moment are hitting £2mil each.
I was introduced to the Service Manager who usually deals with the high end stuff like 1-77's but said at any time I wanted to talk about my car or problem, ring him or his staff straight away. I came away with about 8 business cards. I spent about 2 hours there doing everything, and felt more than welcome with no rush.
It was actually I very good experience but having never bought from Porschs direct I cant compare but I get the feeling it wouldnt be as special.

Cheers everyone for sharing your experience. I adore my new Cayman S already. Spec wise I'm pretty happy, a couple of things I'd do different next time. Didn't get dual zone climate as I assumed (wrongly) that single zone climate control was standard. Old school warmer/cooler A/C is a bit stingy. Maybe leather dash next time as well. I'm from Australia where the sun would kill a leather dash in no time flat but I guess it's OK in the UK. LOVE the Burmester.

Still waiting for the call from the OPC telling me about my PEC session............ Oh and it was almost a year ago that I bought the car. Also still waiting for a call from them to say "sorry" about the coolant leak that the car had a week after I collected it as a result of a rad change prior to sale which was carried out incorrectly. It was fixed by another, much better, OPC. Other than that the only "gift" I received was the sweat from the sales person's handshake as he took my cheque. In my experience there are major differences between the OPCs. The corporate branding makes you think you are getting the same experience but it's all part of the smoke snd mirrors. My experience of Aston has, on the whole, been much better.

That Aston collection experience sounds like the way it should be - thanks for sharing here.
I've just bought a used 911 privately & that experience was far superior to any I've had at OPC's.
Ha ha , just put my 997.2 C up for sale on PH looks like I haven't budgeted for a bunch of flowers and a full tank of juice.I've just bought a used 911 privately & that experience was far superior to any I've had at OPC's.
Damn.

wow some of these stories, i was treated extreme well when i purchased my new Turbo S last year from east london branch. got various porsche gifts and post delivery was invited to 3 Porsche hospitality events all free of charge. i guess much depends on who 'runs' the porsche dealerships i guess.
I think it also depends on how you act when you enter a Porsche (or any) dealership. I think if you swan in, thinking you're the big cheese etc you get treated like sh@t. I'm a humble Postman (with a 991) and they all know this at my OPC but I get treated really well. Wilmslow is the OPC btw. Oh, and I got a nice Porsche jacket with the 991.petop said:

Following on from that... when my wife and I collected her Boxster from Porsche Swindon it was a very nice experience. The car was highly polished and waiting under cover outside the main doors to their showroom within a roped off area. It was an ex-demo car but presented like it was a brand new car.
That said I was more excited when I collected my new Griff 500 from the dealership back in '99. It was in the showroom with a few other March 1st cars (Astons, Morgans and TVRs) in their showroom looking stunning. I did however ask the sales guy to drive it out of the showroom, didn't want to embarrass myself with all that brand new metal around me
And... when I collected my P&J it was from a large barn on a farm, no flowers and non roped off area but we did get to make ourselves a cup of instant coffee in the kitchen before we drove it home!

he relevance being it's about collecting a new car, surely even you realise that.
The thread is about collecting a new car from an OPC, nothing to do with buying an Aston from an AM garage. Surely even you realise that.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
