Here is my standard Artic silver baby. Does anyone have one in a Porsche Exclusive colour ?. I've seen one in Riviera blue but my pick would be Mint green.

Nice. i like the GT2 spoiler - it does give the cars an even more purposeful look.

Not sure if posted elsewhere but here's another:

I think the model is finally getting some long hard earned praise, the 996 in
general has taken a doing over he years for this or that. The tough as nails Mezger
unit is really in a world all of it's own, amongst the best performance engines ever made never
mind Porsche made. And that is part of the reason for the price increases, its a
pure analogue kick in the back driving machine, from here on in it just gets more
and more diluted.

yes

It's a 911 turbo FFS. It should be all big wings and scoops.

The only modification I'd ever do the turbo , obligatory pistonheads sticker, subtle and small!

hehe My mate, who's not a car guy but loves the turbo would agree with you. I took him for a run out in it and that was his only criticism; the spoilers need to be bigger, so it looks as fast as it is.

There is a lot of wishful thinking along these lines at the moment, I am thinking that over time the 993 turbo prices rises might rub off though not sure why 996 turbo would rise more than 997 turbo which has same Mezger engine,

He says as a totally biased 997 turbo owner of one week smile

yes

Looking at the evolution, it looks like the spoiler is set to disappear completely...

But are you just saying this as a biased owner?

If you exclude the motorsport roots, in turbo form i didn't find the engine any more inspiriing than your average sewing machine. Jump from a mezger powered turbo to a mezger powered GT3 and i would argue the difference is night and day.

Away from the engine, the 911 Turbo 'brand' is all about excessive performance, wild styling and scary handling. I won't bully the 996 here - no modern 911 Turbo has these traits. They are undoubtedly quick, but feel very restrained. As an 'analogue' experience, as you put it, i wonder what a Turbo gives the driver over a naturally aspirated 911?

So for me, a 996 Turbo represented great bang for buck. Yeah, they don't look quite right, but you got nigh on 200mph performance and Porsche badge for £30k. If they get suckered into the Porsche bubble, then you have to remove the blinkers and start having a look around at what you can get for £50k - there are a lot of options out there!
