I wish i had the money to buy it, I've seen the car and in the current climate it's easy worth the £30k
strip it back to bare metal, give it the paint it deserves and you've got a cracker

Its a funny world, there is one for sale 85 Top End/Gearbox 80k miles just been done
service history, ready to drive and enjoy at £42k.

Where does this put the 930 market in years to come?

I did not expect it to already be where it is at, especially by this point in the auction, maybe by the end of it, but not with a day and a bit left to run.

It is currently at £25k, with 7000 page views and 544 watchers.

I think the difference between this car and the £42k one, is that people are taking the attitude that at say £30k, even if you spend £10 on the car, you end up with a 930 with a fresh respray for £40k, which kinds of then leaves the car more top of the market, rather than bottom.

On top of that, the bonus with this car if you want a tweaked one, it already has thousands of pounds worth of modifications already installed.

But on the flip side, for those not interested in a modified car, but a totally standard one, this one can be standard at no extra cost, as whoever buys the car has the option for us to return it to standard form, all the mods are "bolt on" so will leave no trace.

Shame none of the bidders on the car are called Phillip, as it has a cool private plate which comes with the car which would either suit a Phillip or someone into sporting clothing. (Northern Irish type plate, first three letters are FIL and the next digit is a 4, looks like "FILA", as in the sports clothing company)

Anyway,

Going to be interesting to see how it goes at between 6pm and 7pm tomorrow.

I admire this approach to selling such a car and really hope you do not get messed around once the auction ends. Hopefully at this end of the market you are left with a genuine buyer.

My only question or concern would be (and I also appreciate this car comes with no guarantees) is whether enough heat to melt a car cover was not also enough heat to melt 32 year old electrics... I'm guessing those looms are not simple.

The mad thing is, the car cover melted and left blobs of what almost looks like concrete all over the car, the paint has flaked or blistered in places, the windscreen cracked (apparently when the fire brigade squirted their hoses at it to keep it cool) but has been replaced, and one rear light cluster has deformed.. But even the rubber trims, windscreen wipers, and everything else seems to be absolutely fine!

We have pulled the carpets out, checked the wiring everywhere we can, and there seems to be absolutely no sign of heat damage to the wiring, or any other part of the car. I think the thing with wiring is it is designed to get hot so it does not just burst into flames if you have a short circuit... But having said that, I do not think it got that hot and even suspect the car cover may have not just melted, but perhaps had a hot ember hit it and it burned like a plastic carrier bag without getting hot enough to burn the car.. there are not even scorch marks on the car.. just blistered paint and blobs of grey melted car cover.

When I was offered the car, I expected it to be a real state.. but in reality it seems to be very good, starts, runs drives and on saturday passed its mot test.

It has a couple of advisories on the MOT, which are a little corrosion on the brake pipes in one location, but not severe. Some surface corrosion on the chassis in two locations and noted as "not deemed excessive) which means it is flaked underseal, not holed and surface rust only, and a minor oil leak which is new and we need to investigate this afternoon... Which is not bad considering it was done my an independent garage to us, and we asked them to be severe with the car to not only cover us for liability, but also the MOT station themselves.

If we have time over the next 24 hours, the corrosion on the brake pipe will be investigated and probably just needs a wire brush followed by some waxoil, and the same with the chassis where the underseal has flaked and caused surface rust, along with checking the oil leak, but to be honest, if it passed the mot it is probably one of the oil pipes needs tightening.

Anyone interested can view the car at the workshop today or tomorrow, without an appointment, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.. If someone needs to visit the car after hours that can be arranged.. For any inspection, we welcome yourselves or your own specialist to come along, we will even provide a lift for inspecting the car, along with equipment such as a leakdown tester, compression tester, 4 gas analyser etc.. I am sure anyone who inspects the car will agree it is exactly how described and better in the flesh than it looks in the photos.

We don't mind going the extra mile on this one, as it really is an honest car and we would love it to go to someone who feels they got a good deal from us and were treated more than fairly.

Someone once said "Fortune favours the brave".. But then again, don't they also say the meek will inherit the earth smile

As an update, it is the last day, it seems to be going well on the auction.

The annoying thing is that the last couple of weeks it has been run every day and now it decides to develop an oil drip and ebay will not let me update the auction as it has less than 12 hours to go.

Typical, have tried to detail every single little fault with this bugger and am not happy that I can't let potential bidders know about the oil weeping, tempted to close down the auction and start again, or at least tell whoever buys it they have an option to cancel their purchase and pass it to the next highest bidder... Or maybe I am just trying to find excuses not to sell her?! Cleptomania with cars is a hard habbit to break!

Why not just fix the leak? Tell the buyer by all means if you wish, but there's no real need if it's fixed.

The guys are looking at it now. Either way the final buyer is getting told. If we can fix it right away then it is being fixed, parts may be a problem, but if not the end buyer will be given options.

Typical though isnt it, sell a car as a project and I still can't bring myself to let it go with anything that develops.. I should have just kept it and restored her myself.. But then I would never sell her.

Competition time.

What does everyone think it will sell for?

Closest person gets either a voucher for a free minor service at JMG, or if you are a DIY person or too far away, you get a package of all the parts required to perform a minor service on your Porsche posted to you, including the Mobil oil we use, but in retail containers.

Rules, everyone needs to pick a unique price, in the case of two people guessing the same price, the earlier one gets the prize. in the case of two people guess an equal distance either side of the selling price, both people will get it. smile
