Hi, i am selling (or trading) my carrera 4 996 for a 997, bit confused as seen advertised a 4s ? Are these wide bodied as did not look wider ? also only seen 1 carrera 4 in 997 model? Are the 4 wheel drive ones more desireable than 2 wheel drive ? i brought my 4 because it was first one & bit worried about them be a bit tail happy, but think now will go for 2 wheel drive but like wide bodied look ? I have budget of £10k & should get £10k for my car so about £20k total.

Yes, the 997 came in a 4S version as well as 4. Both are "wide-bodied" compared to the 2/2S. I think its 22mm extra at the rear.

The 4wd is very different from the one in the 996.

You loose some luggage space vs the 2/2S.

On my 996 you can see the diffrence in 4s & normal 4, so the 997 is not as noticable ? are the 4 more expensive to buy?

I believe the C2 & C4 have circa 345bhp and the C2S & C4S have circa 385bhp (plus a few extras).

In addition to the body widths noted already.

I've actually just put a deposit down for one.

Quite rare as they were £5k more than Carerra 2S. They're actually 44mm wider, not 22mm. It is the same body as the Turbo.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but can you really get a decent 997 for £20K?

Having recently bought a 996C4S for the same budget the only 997's I saw for sale at that price were CAT C/D, had some sort of "Minor" engine issue or had more miles on them than the Millennium Falcon.

Tread carefully!

I was thinking the same thing. I doubt you'll be able to get a 997 C4S for under £25k never mind £20k.

I was in the same position and got myself a tidy 996 C4S for under £20k. Hartech engine rebuild too so less worries about imminent engine implosion.

An early 997 4S without the rear reflector is surely worthless?

Perhaps. But a GTS for £20K biglaugh

I maintain that most of us would find it difficult to tell the difference between a 4WD and 2WD 911. And even more of us would be glad of the 4WD when needed. Nobody wants to put their 911 through a hedge.

I hate to disagree MASSIVELY. But I disagree MASSIVELY....

You are right about not getting one for 20k though, never in a month of Sundays. smile

As a C4S owner myself I'd agree with Gregorfuk, I'm not that good a driver to tell the difference!

good luck with your new car, so jel... is the 997 called a C4S & that will mean 4 wheel drive & wide body? Are all 4 wheel drives wide body? I dont really need 4 wheel drive, but just love the look? they dont do 2s in wide body then?

Why would you put a 2WD 997 through a hedge? Whats wrong with them?

OP, this issue of total 911 (issue 111) has a good c4 section. I can't recall if it had 4s though....given my copy away, soz.
