With the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System, is Cobra the only company that can provide active monitoring or are there other companies that can do the same?

Also all I know is that it's Thatcham Cat 5 and uses GPS and GSM technology. Any one has more details on what system Porsche actually uses and how it differs from other systems?

Thanks!

VTS is for all practical purposes a standard Cobra system (not positive of the exact model). You can't use it with another provider - you would have to have another manufacturer's unit fitted to do that I am afraid.

Can anyone recommend a tracker that you can monitor yourself. It's for a race car so not hard wired and need battery life of at least a month. I ve seen some cheap ones online but they appear not to have good battery life ( a day or two in sleep mode at best ) .
And to reaffirm the answer to the OP s question, only Cobra can track the Porsche VTS .

I am about to fit a Chip n Trac to the Chimaera this week. It comes with two batteries and you monitor it with your smart phone. Don't know about battery life but details from here. RBS ltd www.rbs-propertymarking.co.uk

Just renewed my PVTS with Vodafone.
A word of warning - I was tempted by the (modest) discount if I renewed for 3 years up front (£580:50) but not when I was advised that it was non-transferable to a new owner and non-refundable if I sold the car! This information is NOT in the renewal letter, so beware!

Was that to another car already fitted with a Cobra or a new install ?
