It doesn't matter what you do to the standard brakes, fluid change, pad change, braided hoses, they are simply not up to the job for track use. Insufficient cooling and small pad to disc contact patch is the problem.

Glenn, Nothing serious, loose oil pipe that I thought had been fixed! Car has 3.5 gallons of oil so unless you drove around 10 miles you would'nt run out!

Fixed and passed did Silverstone on Tuesday with no snags.

It only costs about £1,300.00 + vat to upgrade the brakes on the GT3 Mk1 to GT2/GT3 Mk2/ GT3RS spec, which are 6 pot calipers instead of 4 pot the important thing is pad area its almost double, and with larger discs
it makes a big difference on track. On the road the 4 pots were OK but on track they get found out, the early 996 turbo's have the 4 pots as well plus a lot extra weight I bet they have no brakes left after 3-4 laps at Bedford!

does that include fitting??
Anyone you would recommend to do it ???
cheers

Allan After driving a mark 1 GT3 at Silverstone some years ago in a back to back comparison with my 993rs I would have to disagree. The brakes on the mark 1 are appaling on track. Fade and lack of performance are evident after even a short period on circuit even with limited periods of application. JC

I'll get my coat then shall I ?

John I've observed you drive and respect your opinion. My comment whilst a little flipant or even "tongue in cheek" was meant to convey that I conceeded that I was in this instance wrong and that in future I should keep my trap shut.

20 years of racing motorcycles does not make me a fast car driver but I think I can hang on the brakes with most and I found the Mk brakes up to what I gave them. However others have found them lacking.

No offence meant

Allan

No offence taken!

If we were to all have the same opinions, Pistonheads and other portals would be a quiet and desolate place!

Cheers

I had my MK1 brakes upgraded at JZ Machtech, its not really a major job & any competent garage can do it. I believe Jasmine motor sport are advertising the 6 pot brake upgrade at the moment. I tried various pads {pagid orange/PFCM} & the cooling kit with the standard brakes but let me assure you that anything you do with the standard brakes will be no where near as good as the 6 pot upgrade. For lap times there is probably not a better upgrade for the Mk1 GT3 for the money.
