Now have found a few places to buy tyres am finding it impossible to get the rear Michelen tyres, can get fronts not rears!!

If I need to switch what should I go for and why?

I just changed from Conti's to Pirelli P-Zero's. Not by choice but because I couldn't find Conti's anywhere without waiting 6 weeks!
Only had the P-Zero's on since yesterday, so can't comment on their performance, but the Conti's were awesome, especially in the wet. May just be me, but the Conti's were more comfortable, though it's too ealry to tell.

Most 996's seem to run on P-Zero's.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along shortly to advise.

I had pirelli and continentals on my first 996 and pirelli on the second.

My preference by far was for the continental sport contact 2's, they seemed to be more predictable and have more grip than the pirelli.

Also if you buy from Micheldever in Micheldever or Headley Tyres nr Newbury they come out at £6-650 for 4.

Not quite the same i know, but i've had Conti SportContact N2's, Pirelli P-Zero Rossos, and Michelin Pilots on my 993s, and i continue to buy the Contis.

Between the wet grip, dry grip, noise, comfort, wear rate, cost and their progressive nature... well, nothing else will do for me.

D'oh! I should have waited for some Conti's. First impressions of the P-Zero's is not good.
How long does it generally take to run a new set of shoes in?
I know it's early days, but I'm really not keen on how they grip in the wet.

I'll have to be very impressed over the next few months not to go back to Conti's.

I have never been a fan of P-Zero's especially in the wet. I recently had SO-2's fitted to my 993 and they are sublime in the wet compared to the pirellis.

Looks like there will be some 285/30/18 N1 Pilot sports within the next few weeks. So, figure its best to wait since I only need rears right now.

What the general opinion of the Pilot sports compared to conti, brigston and perelli?

I've driven ~11000km on a set of SO2s (N1 in front, N2 in rear) then swithced to Pilot Sports (N1) on my C4S. I have about 1000km on them now. I find the Michelin's a bit grippier, and less prone to tramlining. No track days, just spirited driving.

if you look at the porsche web site or in the manual it details the hardness of the tyres and there intended use.

it is my understanding that the pirellis are one of the softest tyres and the michelin are one of the most durable.

I found the beading of the conti 2's was good to avoid wrecking the edge of your wheel rims, in addition to having the best grip, feel and looks.

i think judging (from recent experience at bedford) that the michelins (not the cups obviously) on the new gt3 have a fair bit more grip than p zeros on my mk1
