Dont know if a replica is in your thoughts though.
I saw that one and spoke to the owner. Sounds a really nice car, but the replica thing put me off rather.http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C516441

Thanks for your honest replies. Shows how dangerous little knowledge is - and the value of PH! Think I'd better do a bit more research. OR stick with the GTS. Never was any good at decisions.

If you ever find yourself in south lincs - you are more than welcome to have a blast in my 3.2 (assuming you haven't driven an old 911 - if you have then no worries!)
That's a very kind offer, olly22n. No. Never driven an old 911 and an opportunity to do so would undoubtedly help immensely. This looks quite a nice safe buy as a starter 'classic', for high days and holidays.

Had mine for 4 years now. Longest I've ever owned a car in over 20 years. Black with extended leather ( headlining, dash, sun visors etc) hardbacks, hollow spokes and total history from new. No missed services, all old MoTs. I do love it but each time I'm exposed to a newer car ( gen 2 more recently 991) I find myself sorely tempted to sell and try something new/er
Problem is I'd want bundles to sell it. Still, if someone made an offer mid £30's I think it would be hard to say no.

This looks excellent if you dont mind a bit of LHD action.

Apart from the grief of getting it here this seems very cheap - I assume the mileage must be missing a 1 at the beginning??

Any aircooled Porsche is only as good as its underlying condition – and I don’t mean the high gloss paintwork and tidy interior.
IMO very few are in optimum mechanical health – tired engines, well down on their original bhp, worn suspensions, loose steering, poor geo set up, vague gearboxes, electrical gremlins, old tyres, iffy brakes, dull lighting, noisy wipers, irritating rattles and wind squeal...... and oblivious owners - all compromise the experience.
Don’t get me wrong, I Iove the aircooled models, but it takes a bit of effort (or expense) to get the nicest examples that fully reflect the true joy of driving - otherwise the novelty will soon wear thin. And, I'd be cautious about the '70s era.

Do you not fancy a Turbo then?
To be honest I've always steered clear of turbos, other than the daily diesel. Not sure why, suppose it's that 'normally aspirated' thing, but I am beginning to come round to the idea. Probably too late now!Edited by SEE YA on Monday 21st July 07:52

This is why I've steered clear up to now, and I must say the trip to and from viewing the 1976 2.7 was a joy in the GTS. The old car had that vaguely mildew smell (reminded me of my brother's Rover P5B he had years ago) and that's not really what I'm buying in to. I want a lightness of touch and delicacy that I feel may be missing from the modern 911, but not the inconvenience of an old banger. I suppose that's why people are prepared to pay top dollar for a Singer.IMO very few are in optimum mechanical health – tired engines, well down on their original bhp, worn suspensions, loose steering, poor geo set up, vague gearboxes, electrical gremlins, old tyres, iffy brakes, dull lighting, noisy wipers, irritating rattles and wind squeal...... and oblivious owners - all compromise the experience.
