I Thinks it can be a number of things with these cars.
First people buy one to say they have had one (bucket list for cars) novelty wears off and on to the next one.
People buy kidding themselves they can use it as a daily driver only to discover the practicalities are too many a few months down the line.
It has a expensive job lurking and nobody has appetite to do it.

The relentlessly climbing price might have something to do with it.
When I was offered it in the trade a year or two ago (after Steve sold it and the diff etc had all been done) bids were closer to £25k than £30k, it was offered due to lack of retail interest over a few months, which the trade bids reflected. The dealer retailed it instead, Crimp-a-Length bought it, his circumstances changed so he sold it, but values/demand had increased so the price was more than the original dealer retail advertised figure. It's now significantly higher again.

Not sure how frequently it keeps popping up, but this buoyant market might be something do do with it. I usually keep my cars a minimum of three years, but recently moves a GT2 and GT3 on after less than a year each. Both were excellent examples with no known problems and I particularity loved the GT3, the 2 was less my thing if I am honest.
However if, after 9 months of so you have enjoyed the car as a toy, and you are offered the same or even slightly more money, Vs keeping it and paying for a full service, warranty etc, it can be quite temping to move on, knowing you have had the car effectively for free.
Had I known the 997 GT3s were going to continue climbing rapidly I might have made a different decision, but at the time it was an easy call to make

Nothing strange in that. It happens all the time.
If the GT3 is your one main sporty car then the impracticalities may add up at some point...kids, wife, storage space, etc
If you are fortunate enough to have access to other cars as well and have the storage space then there is little need to move it on!

Unless it is only to be used on track - lack of aircon would make me look elsewhere!(come to think of it, I even use the aircon on track days )
Most are summer cars - why would you want to be uncomfortable????????
Btw, off topic, but does anyone know how the aircon system behaves if used on track? i.e. does it continue to work as per normal or does it shutdown at high revs?...I usually turn it off in case it is reducing engine performance. Most are summer cars - why would you want to be uncomfortable????????
Lack of aircon won't be helping. Seats just a further nail in the coffin. But historically, silver Mk 2's are just hard work to shift. I suspect silver Mk 1's are a bit easier.
I have to say if I bought this on condition, (and it seems to be a cracker) I think I'd rapidly fall out of love with the colour. It is incredibly dull. I wouldn't particularly want a black version, but at least a black example has a certain "menace" to it that a silver Mk 2 lacks.
If it had buckets and a Tequipment/Clubsport cage, it'd be easier to shift.

As someone who's looking to get into a 996 GT3 soon (unless I really don't like how they drive which I very much doubt will be the case), not having A/C would definitely put me off. After doing some long stints in my car with the A/C on in the recent heat I don't think I'd buy another car without it.
Is it possible to retro-fit A/C?
Buckets would be great but not a deal-breaker for me.
I was supposed to be test driving Slippydiff's Manthey this weekend but the swine sold it.

some one should have bought it and put 996 buckets in it.
now it's just the wrong spec with a price too high.
lets not forget the hype factor also.

A GT3 is an amazing car. If you are lucky enough to get to use it as intended everything comes into place.
For this car seats are easily changed, I would of thought a retro fit of air con would also not be too much of an issue either. Just have to adjust price accordingly. If it is a good car worth the money in my opinion.
