just heard a rumour that there will not be any 4 wheel drive 997's ... is this true? i assume that the exception to that rule will be a turbo... can anyone confirm / deny?

Going on what was said on Top Gear, this seems to be the case. But then what does that curly haired, Porsche hating barrel of monkey spunk know anyway?

I must admit, as a driver of a C2, I don't see the point of/need for a C4, unless driving very hard and in the wetest of weather, the C2 is all you'll ever really need. Especially if you have Conti's on.
Of course when taming 420+ horses, as in the case of the turbo, then 4WD is more of a necessity.

If you've driven a 997 you'll know why they aren't doing it. Plenty of grip is an understatement. 4WD in a 911 just increases understeer because of the altered pivot point. If you want 4WD don't get a 911, get a Mitsi. The turbos I can understand, I have the last of the rear wheel drive 911 turbos, and it stays in bed in bad weather.
