Preferred it when they were 50k. Chaps could buy them for fun and roger them senseless.

The Zymol brigade are not the Chaps that Porsche had in mind when they built them.

Haha very good and very true... Sad really that a car only 10 years old seems to already being confined as a garage queen.

More pertinent , that just over a year ago it was not. Too far, too fast.

Hmm...although logically you are probably correct, it would be nice if there was at least one usable version lower down the price scale...
Earlier this evening I saw a lovely 996 GT3 CS that was basically in storage...it made me sad (Ok, I am a hypocrite - I was dropping off one of my cars too!)

The first GT3RS. The rarest of the 911RS road cars now available (probably less 6RS's than 7RS 4ltrs still survive) and what has been, upto early last year, little or no price rise. I think the car is going to continue to appreciate, and significantly so. Look at the F40 (1300 odd made). That the 6RS is a bit of a marmite car, I think helps its cause. Sad for those that would track these cars? Not in my opinion, if you have one and want to track it do so. The only difference is replacement cost and availability if you stack it. If you don't have one, well I guess that is tough, but truth is, we've all had the better part of ten years to get into the car for (just?)£50-75K, so those who procrastinated have missed the boat.

How much would it take to turn a standard GT3 into something better than a 'factory' RS (talking about 996).

I wonder if people would start using a standard GT3 and making it better or the equivalent of an RS (bit like what people do/did with the 964/993 before the price hike in these models?)

From a performance perspective, you can certainly make a 996 GT3 handle/perform better than a standard 996 GT3 RS - e.g. uprated brakes, cup diff plates, RS aero upgrades - front PU, rear wing, uprated springs/dampers, etc

Infact, many a track day 996 GT3 already sport the above changes. Some RSs will also have some of the above upgrades to make then that little bit better.

Notwithstanding the fact that driver training would make the most difference - i.e. a better driver in a 996 GT3 could drive circles around an inferior driver in a 996 GT3 RS (or a driver more precious about their RS)

But having said all the above, its not just about the performance...the RS models have their own cachet and collectability which if anything is ruined by irreversible modifications. Yes, a standard RS has a little bit of special magic in how it drives over a standard GT3...but the value premium is also about the rareness, the concept, the history, the originality - IMHO

Surely production numbers are against it going too high, I could be wrong?

You think that's a big price...?

How about a 1/4mil for a 993 Turbo S
