Awesome. Just spotted this. How do you find time for this and your other creation?
A questions if I may:
Does the ground effect not worry you a little when it comes to driving it in the future? Even Norbert admitted it was very trial and error when it came to set-up and how the strangely the aero affected handling.

The car will look very like the original, but being 40mm higher off the ground, will mean the ground effect system will be lessened. The car will mainly be driven at street going speeds, which is a pity but I'm sure once the new Local track is built I can convince the owner to come for a Play.... Got to get those GoPro Videos of the car in action :-)
We did look a few different flat 6 motors, air cooled etc. It had to be new or rebuilt, but some of the quotes that we got back where to say the least expensive and being as we needed an engine to really start the chassis and CAD sim's this one came up locally from a wrecked car with only 20klicks on the clock. It's been discuses that at some point in the Future, we may swap out the pistons and fit either a Blower or Turbos to it. It might be best to get used to the power and weight of the car first, as I think this will be first kind of light weight car he's owned and power/weight thing really does open your eye's.... So with a 414hp stock motor with a sports exhaust and remap probably going to be 430-440 maybe in a car close to a ton its still going to be allot quicker that 997 GT3 as it's 30-40% lower mass will make a big difference...
So really a good starting point and it should be fun...

Manifolds are not high enough and will need to be swept up more otherwise they get in the way of the Diffuser. Getting under a Ton might seem easy seeing as the original was 850, but they made everything they could out of ally to get to that weight, and I don't know if that 850kgs was the 956 with the Ally roll cage and air cooled engine. I don't think so at all. I think it will be extremely difficult, 150kg difference between a highly developed, almost cost no object, dry, race car vs road legal replica is absolutely nothing. It will be a hell of an achievement to keep a car that size to that weight; most manufacturers, large and small, fail to hit their weight targets going from CAD to reality!fblm said:

Did you read the full post ? seems you only took the first half sentence ?? Alloy cages were popular especially in Rally Cars in hte 70s and early 80's 'til they were banned. The bar that often goes across the chassis from left to right was just where your knees were. Alloy was strong until it broke with a sudden snap unlike steel, you needed new knees at least !
ACO (Le Mans governing body) where ok with it but IMSA (American governing body I think) where not, nor did they like the feet in-front of the wheel center line, so that where the extended wheel base 962 came along...
To say what an original car should be is hard, as they where in permanent development. There's even a car with the same Stile Steel Tube chassis as us, was done as far as I can tell because it was cheaper and stiffer than repairing the old Ally tub..

Seriously impressive stuff (as normal). Love watching the video updates. I think you've potentially upped your game even over your personal project, which is built to such a high standard and will be mega once done. Think it's awesome you can design and manufacture your own billet parts. I bought a small mill to make a few small items manually for my project but this just makes me want to learn 3d modelling and start cnc'ing! I'm inspired!
You do however make my Exige project look like a Lego set for age 3-5. Lol!

Got to listen to Derek Bel the other night and he talked about doing 240mph down the Mulsanne holding the steering wheel between his knees whilst wiping his face. Sounds a lot more scary than an Alli roll cage. Not sure I'd have been happy doing 240+mph in that...
