I did have my first 987 s serviced at my local opc and other work undertaken at their ‘reduced’ rate. Despite dropping a four figure sum with them over two visits I had the impression that as soon as a full rate job came in my car was pushed off the ramp again. There was no other explanation as to why it took so long. I mentioned this to the service manager as I paid up and his reply was that the reduced rate was uneconomic and he would like it to end. I have not been back since.

I don’t think that my local indie is necessarily cheaper than the opc but I do get the impression that they give a **** about customers with older cars.

I agree to a certain extent. I only take my 987 to the OPC for servicing and they do it at the cheaper rate, but they always want the car for two days now even for a minor service.

When the car was newer and they thought I’d be upgrading, there was a lot more interest from the sales team.

Now it’s 15 years old and they realise that this likely to be the only Porsche I’ll ever buy, that’s tailed off, but I still find the service ok, and I get to borrow a £70k car to take on an extended test drive for two days rather than one.

Good work on getting the loaner! That would have made me feel better but not on offer when I used my opc.

That’s a shame. I thought they always offered it.

I didn’t take them up on the offer in the early days as I used to always had to be in the office in London, so they’d drop me at the railway station. (This is OPC Tonbridge).

The last few years I’ve been able to work from home, so have taken the loan car. The latest one was a fully loaded 718 Cayman GTS which was lovely.

It’s actually quite a good sales technique - some people might be more tempted to buy a new car, others are more likely to keep their existing one serviced within the network because of the perk.

For me it will always be the latter. The new cars are amazing, but not worth five to six times what mine is to me.

Interesting OPC & indy experiences.

I took my 997.1 to a well respected indy (mentioned above) after I'd bought it, for an inspection. They did a fantastic job, very detailed report and the guy I spoke to on the phone went out of his way to help and advise. I was very impressed and decided i'd be going there for servicing etc in future, despite them being a long way away.

So the next service comes along and they ring to tell me the car needs discs and pads all round. Cost: upwards of £1200. It hadn't done many miles since I'd bought it, so I didn't get the work done, but took it to a guy I use for other general work, MOTs & services on other cars. He said the discs still had a lot of life left in them and to just do the pads and keep an eye on the discs. Cost: a few hundred. It's still running on the same discs, two years later. I'm really disappointed as I was looking forward to having a reliable indy to go to with any issues and for servicing, but it seems they were trying the old tricks on me. Anyway, I won't be going back to them, there are plenty of others to choose from in the South-East.

Unfortunately OPCs' have significantly upped their prices. Mines got FPSH apart from one stamp at 9E, but this year its switching to 9E only.

Similar experiences here with the above this year.

Always had what I felt to be ‘reasonable’ service costs on my 987 Boxster at OPC over the past 7 years I’ve owned it. Courtesy car & invites to events most welcome, however the invites seem to have evaporated over the last 18 months (perhaps I need to change my aftershave...).

Rang them for a price for a minor service this year, previous minor was under £300 & in line with the 986 price under their ‘classic’ pricing. This year got quoted £685!!! I explained that it was a minor not a major service but apparently this is the price now.

Can’t see how they can justify that price increase. I agree with the above in that now that my Boxster is 15 years old, they feel I’ve gone past the upgrade potential & therefore are not interested in my business.

So off to the Indy I go, which won’t be a problem, but is a bit frustrating as up until now I’ve got a full OPC history.
