Hey
I've just bought an old 911 (1984) 3.2 and it's empty of oil. Running fine, but obviously I need to get some into it asap, and the lady I bought it from had no idea about it!
Which oil would you recommend and how much initially, the dipstick is showing negligible in there!
Beauty tho, she really is.
Thanks
T

Buy 10 litres of 10W40 - any oil is better than low - but I'm using Mobil Super 2000 X1 as it is a good older formulation (API SL) of oil.

Opie oils are doing a 15% off 'everything' today.

If you drop all of the oil out of the reservoir and the crankcase, IIRC the 3.2 will take about 8 or 9 litres depending on how much is in the oil-cooler and pipes to it. But I may be getting my 911s mixed-up so do a search.

Is that with the engine up to temperature, thermostat open, on level ground, engine idling?

I was under the impression that convertibles required Duck Oil.

I read on the internet that it is effective at keeping water out?

As above, don't check the oil like you would in a normal car.

10-40 semi synthetic I think .75 litre min to max on the dipstick, but could get miles off, maybe 1.5 litre can't remember.

Also note the oil level gauge only works when the endings is hot, or the level and stationary and then it is NIT accurate. When moving it is all over the place.

Thanks guys. 10/40 synthetic and she took just over 2 litres slowly. Fiddley to put in though...I had to make a marble run for it!

If the engine had very little oil in it, you may want to check over the rest of the car very carefully! When was it last serviced?
