Sorry, but that does not fully answer my SPECIFIC question and who are you to decide what is 'off topic' in a post?

You are referring to the posts that caused 'you' to ban a member.

I am talking about thread that spun-off from that. If it was only two posts, why stifle the debate about if a 'rating' system is possible/feasible and that post did not contravene Posting rules.
"I" haven't done any banning at all, nor any post deleting. I'm simply explaining how the moderating process typically works. smile

When the gang of you all decide you want to try and kick up a fuss and make life difficult for the moderators then there may be a bit of collateral damage. Move on, grow up and start discussing Porsches.

From what I can see the thread you are so hung up about was more about discussing the moderation of Crimp than any adult rating system.

By all means start a thread to discuss whether there should be a rating system, but keep it on topic. But first, think very carefully why there should even be a need for such a system when there are clear rules on what is and what is not appropriate here.

There are plenty of other sites on t'internet to satisfy your desires for adult rated content; come here for your discussions about cars and motoring.

And finally, if you have issues with the moderation then contact Nathan Lowndes (eybic. nathan.lowndes@haymarket.com).

Yes, I am a moderator. I thought that was clear.

And as is the case in many disputes in life, there is a second side to the story. The moderators can see that side which ultimately contributed to the banning of a member.

It doesn't help that many of the vocal minority on here seem hell bent on baiting and insulting the moderation team; you are not helping your case!

You can choose to pass on by if of no interest, rather than add a pointless quip. Surely the more mature approach ?

Though Budweiser does have valid point.

Pointless ban. He could join again immediately with a new username.

He could. But the new user account would be banned.

Assuming you knew it were him - which he could make an impossible task for "people" like you.

I think everyone would be appeased somewhat if there was some kind of detailed (to one degree or another) explanation, rather than just the seeming "we're moderators, we're doing our job, deal with it" kind of responses we seem to be getting.

I must say I disagree entirely with moderators deleting whole threads just because they weren't keen on the content, despite those threads not breaking any rules or offending anyone - going off topic is no excuse either; as with any chat, the focus of conversation moves (think of "real" conversations you have socially - no-one steps in to say "woah there, guys, you started talking about the Commonwealth Games, now you're on the subject of remote controlled cars, this must stop"). On the one hand, you're saying "there are rules, we have to apply/enforce them" (which people may understand, more so if given explanations of course) but on the other you are making your own up too and deleting compliant stuff that just doesn't take your fancy, which does nothing for your credibility with members at all.

NB I mean the collective "you" referring to moderators in general.

How much more detailed do you want than "he was given a final warning that he chose to ignore and broke the rules again"?

I've read and seen worse why aren't you moderating this content then. A real jobs worth response WEAK.
Posting Rules said:
Do not post links or images which contain pornographic, violent, racist or sexist material or that could be seen as offensive or unlawful in any way.
At least one user of this forum found the image offensive and reported it. The moderation team acting upon that report and agreed that the posting of the image broke the rules.

We do not moderate each post but rather rely on users reporting threads that are problematic (press the 'Report' link that appears alongside each post).

Can a person be banned by one moderator or does it require a vote of all of you to see someone off?

Over many, many years the mods have done an excellent job. But nothing is perfect and mistakes do occur.

A suggestion - should some of these issues discussed via PM, or an appeal to an small committee made up of 2 mods, 2 well known members (20k+ posts) & the new PH Manager.

I'll continue your analogy of the real world social conversation. If people keep interjecting in your discussion of the Commonwealth Games with a moan about the heavy-handedness of the Landlord banning someone from the pub, and this escalates to a mob of people all wanting to whinge and moan about his actions, the Landlord might chose to ask the mob to take the conversation outside (or shut up) because it was adding nothing to the quality of his establishment. smile

This little episode has contributed at least 15 reports to the moderators, one banning and a sin-binning so far. There's a whole other forum out there to be kept on track alongside this, so I feel we are justified in trying to reign in the mob and discussion which, let's be honest, was adding no value at all to the site and the discussion.

Now, can we talk aboput racing Porsches? driving
