This is an option in Germany, indeed they are completely geared up for it in Zuffenhausen or Leipzig - but not in the UK - it cannot be selected on the Configurator, and any dealer will confirm.

What is the issue?

This has been done to death already.

I can't speak German , I can't afford a new Porsche , but even I know the reason behind this.

All,

Factory a Collection is back up and running. It is not listed on the configurator but is available to UK customers. PCGB have contracted a new agent and you need to make the request via ur OPC, who will forward on the paperwork.

The factory collection is available until end Sept this year and then from April the following. In between those dates Porsche do not allow UK collections due to the winter tyre rules.

Prices have risen by £500 since last time I did factory collect back in 2006 - and currently it seems that you have to fly from one of the London airports!

...which makes no sense. Surely it should just be a case of requiring people to buy the winter wheel set rather than the option being closed (which presumably should also apply to anyone in Germany wanting to pick one up as well)?

The above sounds plausible, but I can assure you that it is bks.

Thee is no factory collection option on the Configurator. I recently asked Porsche Glasgow if this option would be available in the Spring / Summer. I was told emphatically that it was not available, it would not be available, and no reason was known. You cannot collect a car from the factory if you are a UK purchaser.

WTF?

Investigate ordering a C16 car through a German OPC? The threat of that might be enough to persuade your local OPC to look into a bit more.

It is bad form that Porsche GB should have allowed any significant delay between one travel agent going bump and contracting another to do the same job - how hard can it be to package a flight, hotel and ferry ticket?

Why can you not collect and organize the flight, hotel and ferry ones self? No need for a travel agent to do that!

You can, but you wont get a factory tour, and a factory collection, It's a package.

I collected my GT3 in November 2007, came on Mich Cups, made for a hairy drive home. I'm sure the law re winter tyres was the same then. And I was in Porsche Factory just 4 weeks ago on 14th Movember and every car coming off the production line that I saw was on Summer tyres. Figure that one out !

You don't need to fit the winter tyres if the conditions are fine.

The Germans have this saying; they fit their winter tyres 'von O bis O' Oktober until Ostern (easter). The legal requirement is only to have winter tyres fitted when condition dictate i.e snow etc. It Is currently 11.C over here so there is absolutely no need for winter tyres what so ever.

Because then Porsche wouldn't be able to make even more profit from a cut of the hotel, flights and booking fees.

So I take it based on the above link it is still officially available with factory tour etc....?

Assuming it is, how, if at all, do people deal with the running in period? Do the cars already come run in, do people just ignore it, or just drive home at 4k rpm (or whatever)?

Dont waste yr money in factory delivery, poor airport flexibility, poor shuttle service ,ie sprinter van,car not ready they had the wrong day, factory tour poor, more time spent in pd shop than tour.Hotel not great.

Best part was the drive/running in, out to see a friend in Munich for intial run in,then overnight at the ring, day running the car in at the ring and drove home, well run in after 2,000 miles.
