It would be good to have a dedicated thread on these tyres, as they appear to be the current state of the art road/track tyre, and are attracting quite a lot of attention in other (semi-unrelated) threads.

I'm extremely interested to hear peoples views about them against the Cup+, PSS etc, not just on track but also on the road. Are they hard and crashy against the PSS for example? Anyone been through standing water at pace in them? Optimum pressures, etc?

I'll start us off with a pic shamelessly stolen from jackwood on another thread, not sure whose car these are on smile

Very happy with them.
Also cured an errant handling issue with my previous set.

Better dry grip than AD08. I have not compared with the newer AD08R
Have not tried in the wet yet

Here is a picture of my tyres smile

For MPSC 2 currently 6 sizings available in N spec (NO) : http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-pilot-spo...

Details under Sizes and Labelling Classes tab.

Have fitted a set to my 7.2 GT3 RS...so far a distinctly positive improvement...

(Thanks to Event Tyres for supply as well)

Hi,

The Cup 1 tyres I always found ok in the wet on track... Always got comments like " How do you find so much grip in the wet with these tyres ?"
The Cup 2 tyres are on another level in the wet, in the dry I personally found regulating the pressures was more demanding than the Cup 1 tyres and also felt them go off quicker.. this was apparent at SPA in June.

The wear rate does seem a whole lot better than Cup 1 tyres so will see how much more I can get out of them as if the only down side is they go off quicker in the dry but last 2-3 times longer and perform better in the wet then I can live with that.

I have a few more track days to do yet this year so will update this thread when I have got some more use out of them....

Does anyone need a set of Cup 1 tyres brand new never fitted to rims ? 996GT3 MKII size, will fit MKI as well.

I can also add that they offer better grip in the wet & dry than Supersports. I have a set of wheels with Supersports on & have not fitted them since putting Cup2s on my other set of rims.

Anyone need a brand new set of Cup 1s in 997.1 GT3 sizes? No reasonable offer refused wink

Do you have to caveat that statement with a comment about standing water ? Surely the SS is the tyre of choice for non track GTs because of its performance in the wet and especially the benefit of their increased tread depth and ability to resist aquaplaning (compared to Cups).

Illustrative pic (cos I like it smile ) of SS in action at V high speed

Not in my experience (but speaking specifically about corner grip I guess); I've seen well over 100 in standing water on both (on a track) and I felt more in contact with what the car was doing under me on the Cup2s. I've had spins on both types of tyre in the wet and I felt the Cup2s were less sudden in their breakaway characteristics. Both of those observations were on virtually new tyres. I suspect that the Cup2 would become compromised in the wet more quickly that the SS once both have some wear on them. At really high speeds in the wet (over 140 say), I'm sure the SS would be the better tyre.

I'm so impressed by Cup2s that I'm considering changing the perfectly adequate AD08 tyres on my road-only 993 GT2 recreation for Cup2s.

ETA: I don't have a huge amount of experience of these tyres at really high speed on a sodden track as I usually have race wets available for those conditions.

I had a look at the official Euro testing specs for size 325/30 X 19

Cup 2

Fuel = E

Rain = C

Noise = 73 Db

Supersports

Fuel = E

Rain = A

Noise = 75 Db

The Cup + got an E for rain so the Cup 2 seems a big improvement on that measure. The really shocking one is that the Cup 2 is quieter than the SS, not a metric for the track but nice to have for those nasty Belgium motorways !

Oh yes, on that horrible concrete the other side of Brussels it's quite refined on Cup2s. I've done it 4 times this year already. Worst tyre by far on that surface is the R888.

Yes the noise is nothing like Cup 1 tyres. Very quiet inside the cabin.

Worse car to do that Belgian stretch on is an Exige...fillings start falling out.

...in fact on a similar concrete road between spa and Nurburg, the front light popped out on one the exiges in our group!

OP, that original photo is a bit of an odd Photoshop mashup - fake lettering on both tyre and rim

I wrote the launch article for GT Porsche Magazine so have compared them directly to the Cup+.

My thoughts are in the magazine, and here: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Michelin-Pilo...

Any other questions please ask, but it was over a year ago now.

My 18 inch cups will need replaced by then, hope that's true as the expense compared to wear rate is hard to justify now

Shame they are not available in a 315/30/18 rear for the 996 GT2 - odd as the CURRENT ads for the tyre ARE for a 996GT2 test program. A strange choice of car I thought....?
