Hi Jamie and thanks for contributing.

I have little to add but I'd like to say that I'm running PSSs on my Cayman S and they're the best road tyre I've used. Great grip and they seem to last for ever. Well done Michelin.

Will definately look at the Cup 2s and see what sort of prices they go for here in Dubai.

Hi 911p
Good news
What we have is 235/40-18 Cup2 and 295/30-18 Cup2 launched June 2014
I don't know what stock levels are, but we have launched them. Both Non N rated however
Thanks for that, I was however wondering about Pilot Super Sport sizes. Are there any plans to produce PSS in the sizes above? As at the moment 996 GT3 owners are stuck with the outdated PS2's for road use. Cheers smile

Whilst we are planning to replace PS2 "N" rated in 2015, I can't confirm what they will be either a PSS or PS4 or another name... watch this space. But nothing will come before Q4 2015, as they are still in development at the moment

Which Michelin tyre would you recommend on a 2000 Boxster S 986 ( Road use only )
Searching the web did not bring up any suitable sizes.
Handbook says :

225/40 ZR 18 Front
265/35 ZR 18 Rear

Currently has Pirelli on the front and Conti on the rear. These are what were on the car when I bought it a month ago, would like to replace the fronts first.

Thank you

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. At the moment your options are slightly limited..
Michelin PS2 N rated..
or
ridiculously..
we sell and make Pilot Super Sport in that size in USA, but don't bring them into Europe.
www.tirerack.com in the states ship to the UK. @ $220 each (~£135).. might be worth doing (that's what I'd fit..) and we do make the 225/40-18 front and is available in the UK

So 2016 or do your 1/4's run at different times?

The changes are planned for September/October 2015 so hope that clarifies..

PSS wont be changed for a while. as if it aint broke don't fix it..
PS4 or whatever will replace and update some old PS2's and the PS3 at present on the market

If that's the case, the Pilot Sport range is getting really confusing! We were told the PS3 replaced the Pilot Exalto range, which is why the PS3 is a bit softer, bit more in line with comfort and wear of the "standard" UHP sector.

As far as I understood the PSS was meant to the true PS2 replacement, and aimed at the UUHP / Max performance segment (or whatever you call it internally these days) so if a PS4 started replacing some PS2s AND the PS3, I'm going to have to get my notepad ready at the next launch wink

Who cares, as long as things keep progressing smile

Resurrecting an old thread.

Would anyone hazard a guess as to whether the PS Cup 2 or the Yoko AD08 would be better in low temp (i.e. 2-3 degree ambient) dry use?
I don't know there is any optimal operating range type data for the compound that can help shed some light.

The Cup2 isn't great when cold (< 7). I switched to PSS a few weeks back & it was very noticeable how much more grip they had over the PSC2s in cold & greasy conditions. AD08s will be similarly compromised but to a lesser degree; I seem to remember running them a few years back over the winter without any major problems. If you have both available it would be good to do a "real world" test, but failing that I would go with the AD08s.

Thanks - I was thinking the same.

I tried the Cup 2s in the rain a few weeks back at around 7 deg. Whilst the Cup 2s were very good considering their predecessor, I suspect the AD08s would have been a bit better.

Dont mind doing a real world test - just need someone to transport the spare set on Saturday smile

(BTW, my AD08s are your set wink Well, the rears have been changed since)

I'll be giving these puppies an outing at Bedford Auto this Sat. Will post my thoughts

Cup 2s. Be interesting to see if they can handle the extra weight of turbo. Didn't bother with n rated ones as they were a few hundred quid more and can't believe they're much different to regular Cup 2s. Usual Porsche tax!

You should be fine. The weather is looking good and perhaps a touch warmer than originally forecast (well, 4deg instead of 2deg biggrin )

I recognise the Nine Excellence car park - that's my friend's yellow GT3 parked next to yours.
My GT3 is likely to be heading there after this weekend for some usual end of year TLC.

Yes pick her up tomorrow and will give her first shakedown at Bedford on sat. She's been with them having various go faster bits (GT2 hybrid turbos and intercoolers, Europipe race exhaust system, GT2 ARBS and lowering springs). My first dealings with Ken - he's a good guy. Can't wait to see what she's like! Never taken my turbo on track as didn't think she'd be any good (when stock) so interesting to see if the upgrades add a bit of character to liven her up and whether she can handle the odd track day. Sunny day all day Sat apparently! Still a few places left for this Sat at Bedord Autodrome.

Wow - I bet it sounds great with the Europipe! The setup should be much tighter now.

Yep, great team at 9e. They've looked after all my Porsches since they started. Excellent knowledge and customer service.

I agree very knowledgable bunch at 9e and Ken is a very slick operator indeed. He single handedly persuaded me to send my car to him rather than RS Tuning/Parr and to charge me more than they were going to charge me so hats off to him! To be fair though the RS Tuning/Parr package only modded the stock turbos where as Kens solution used hybrid GT2 turbos so I'm not comparing apples with apples. Just found 9e a little bit more flexible although to be fair Lawrence at Parr was also a super bloke. RS Tuning were not keen on me having the Europipe and wanted me to use their system which is totally understandable. I will say this though that the Parr demonstrator turbo I drove absolutely blew me away. Felt OEM just massively quicker so hope I made the right decision - honestly one of the best turbo installations I've ever experienced and actually better than the factory . Find out tomorrow if I made the right decision. Happy to take your GT3 to Bedford this Saturday instead if you want! biggrin

Noob Porsche tyre question but I assume these with a N0 rating comply with the 'N-spec' required to comply with Porsche warranty?

THe bespoke CGT front tyre ;-). Which is made for the CGT and will send your Cayman into a ditch if fitted to the rear.
Porsche have never tested this tyre for the rear of a Cayman btw.

But yes Porsche will fit a bespoke CGT front tyre to the driven rear of your Cayman, but not fit a true 265/35/19 PSS to it lol
You could not make this st up.

Imo the N spec 265 is the exact same tyre as the non N spec bar in all but the extra N branding.

Porsche needed a tyre quick smart for the CGT and as PSS are the best road tyre as fitted to 200mph super cars the quickest way was to punt a few £ mitchlin way and get a N put on it ASAP.

Thus a tyre is born into N spec, but it won't help you one jot as you cannot buy a N spec 235 anyway.

as I've discovered the PSS is available (N rated...) in the correct size for my Panamera I shall be giving them a go.
the Pirellis are just about shot;
I'm pleased to say....

I have another set of wheels with 90% new PS2's on so it will be an interesting comparison !
was tempted by Cup2's but it's not exactly a track car smile
