The Friday before the Tuesday that you started the thread? Oops. Did you sign a contract to purchase? Did you get a receipt? I suggest a little early for trading standards. Simply ask for the money back with a deadline that is practical and acceptable. If or when they do not meet that, move to a next step which I guess would be to start a small claims proceeding and contact trading standards. Many lawyers on here with more concrete advice than mine.
Yeah good luck with this. Now expect the dealer to avoid all calls.
Ask the question on here whose had various problems with dealers to speak out.
You'll find it's far more widespread than you imagine.
Even those that purport to be 'honest , trustworthy, specialists.
Hope you didn't sign their standard form which states non-returnable deposit and had the conditions in writing.
Car I was buying turned out to be an import which was not stated although it was C16, they would not refund my deposit despite the many lies I uncovered, fortunately car was ok, but it was 6 months old so not an issue

I just looked back at the email trail from my "buying experience" with Anthony John / Poznan proprietor of HWM. (never did understand why he had multiple names) I had forgotten just how "interesting" the whole experience was.
The car I was supposed to buy was identical to the car in question. 97 C2s in Arctic Silver and Blue interior. Same body kit aswell.
Coincidently the service history gaps were the sticking point for me.
Good job Swiss had the trusty service stamp to hand.

As always, buy the car not the dealer, just make sure you know what your getting into.
This is of course useful advice, but when a dealer makes all manner of promises about a cars condition and provenance, all of which is to be proven with documentation to be provided AFTER a deposit it taken, you are in fact buying into the goodwill of the dealer.Edited by usedtobehappy on Monday 18th August 08:23
Furthermore the after sales service is v v important. Some dealers go above and beyond the call should you experience a mechanical failure as you drive away with your pride and joy. Others do not.............
