On the flipside, my brother owns a PDK CR which I've had the pleasure of driving on numerous occasions. Whilst I admit to being a bit of a PDK fan (my 911 is PDK), I have to say that the gearbox does suit the car very well. His is used as a DD, and for that purpose I have to say I'd rather that than a manual.

IMHO it doesn't detract from the purpose of the car at all (it's got AC, PCM, buckets as well) and if anything let's you really lean on the chassis and suspension in a way that some drivers would not feel comfortable doing in a manual. Again, not slating the manual at all and I'm sure it's equally amazing, but to write off a CR with PDK doesn't do the car justice.

It's a different experience, but I don't think it harms the CR at all.

Strasse in Leeds had one at the end of July in that green colour, no idea on what state it was in though.

I'm not sure that this makes a lot of sense. I really love leaning on the chassis in my manual and I'd have already selected the correct gear prior to really leaning on the chassis, so it's an odd comment.

Agreed. Different strokes for different folks.

I had a Cayman S PDK for around a year and done about 12,000 miles of mixed town, motorway and country driving.

In my view, a 2-seater sports car with an automatic gearbox is a bit of a bizarre creature. I shouldn't be driving such a good car and thinking "Hmmm. Will be fun to drive this road in my wife's manual stbox for a change so I can nail the change down at this corner".

I've owned my Manual, with sports exhaust, buckets and ceramics for around 3 months now and it really is an addictive thing. Early morning blasts into North Wales have never been so fun.
I had PDK on the 981s I owned and felt that it really dumbed down the driving experience.
I'd recommend the Sport Shifter option if you can find one, or retro fit it. It really tightens up the gear shift feel.
Great choice in car Sir - I think that is the best spec Cayman R out there! (And I miss it terribly!)

Looking after your GT3 - just had completely wrapped in the latest film.

if the Cayman had 450ps+, Porsche would have fitted PDK to all such cars. And of course a more dynamic PDK as in the 991 GT3.

the 991.2 GTS is said to have PDK-S and the power pack.

Could be the pick of all the Porsche range as they will have fixed the steering by then also ;-)

It's a bit like trying to decide what colour you like by asking other people what they like.

Surely you already have a preference or have tried both?

Predictably, you'll get some people who would only have a manual (and would therefore want you to follow them), and some who will only want PDK (who, again, would prefer that you confirm their decision by following them).

The R is a great car - I don't think you'd go wrong with either box.

My word of warning is that I was blown away by PDK and did not think through how I would feel about once the novelty wore off. I expect a lot of enthusiastic drivers would have the same experience - after a while, you really start to miss the manual change (assuming you enjoy changing gear in a good car).

The best, best version is the one Mr Demon & Apolo can agree on.

I have a Peridot car with PDK, sports buckets in leather/alcantara, air con and the Spyder wheels in black that is coming up for sale. PM me if it's of interest.

Would I have seen you commuting round and about the Manchester Airport/Wilmslow/Altrincham Rd area in your car during the last couple of weeks, by any chance?
Jack

Ha ha, yes i'm sure. I bet a drive out in the GT3 soon puts it out of your memory though!

You mean, it suits a manual box in your opinion, and that would be your preference.

Unless you are suggesting that people can't have different preferences, which would be daft.

You may not like a pink S-class because that doesn't suit the "character" of the car either. Doesn't mean that no-one wants one.

I'm sure that the OP has his preference. If he gets a chance to try both, he might change his preferences.

Although for some, the novelty doesn't wear off - or if it does, it's always possible to sell the car.

Each to their own - there is no right or wrong answer (just like colour preferences), the car sold in both guises almost equally so clearly there is demand for PDK.

at 475ps, Porsche decided a PDK was better for the GT3. Manual with the 7.2 GT3RS was, IMO, the optimum for its application.

A GT3 like PDK in the 4.0RS would have been awesome.

I know what you mean. For me PDK suits a car if you want to commute and drive like a loon at weekends, but it's still a compromise.

I think a Cayman R is about not compromising, as pure as you can get (for now). But of course that just me....
