They maybe go into what they think is a lot of detail at the factory but every single new Porsche rolls off the production line with loads of paint defects, 918 included. It's the same for every new car out there - I did a McLaren P1 a few months ago and considering McLaren claim to be perfectionists I'd have given them 5 or 6 out of 10 tops.
My brother designs the paint plants for McLaren and due to their desire to up volumes, this creates issues with the finished product.... Hand finished cars are always superior to production line finished cars.
But the P1s are not painted at the factory,?

They were the last time he did a site visit recently. Some of the work may be subbed out though. There are a number of booths on site to allow for off line finishing work.

PS what are your thoughts on the forthcoming P1 GTR? If it's anything like the F1 GTR, it will be awesome. Did you consider a P1 rather than the 918s you have on order?

what about this UK one
Love those wheels, those spokes look too thin to held everything together.

The last time I was there, the P1 parts were painted away from the normal paint booth, and hand finished to an extremely high standard..

Imv, not fair the compare the P1GTR to the F1GTR, Again on the 918,P1, two different cars. I have a P1, in Eu but I have not yet paid for it.......

In EVO they say the Martini cars are wrapped rather than painted, surely it's just vinyl Martini stickers on a white painted car?

I wouldn't say so to be honest - they're both as bad as each other biggrin

I realise I'm part of a small minority though and they're acceptable to most people...

the prob is that to the customer to paint looks fine, or acceptable, but to the trained eye that works in this field..that's another thing.....

trained eyes tend to have vested interests though and it can at times all get a bit (reverse) emperor's new clothes

48,000 euros???? Seriously???? What is this stuff? Can't be paint. Must be blended from the tears of unicorns and applied by the tongues of vestal virgins!

if you acutely work the cost back per Ltr, its about right, there are 3 different minerals used, 9 coats of paint. its the same type that is used on the hologram on c-cards.....

Doesn't change the fact that a new car should come with perfect paintwork, not the sub standard condition they're often presented in smile

Looking forward to seeing the pics of your two cars when you get them. thumbup

I think you know Baf right? I'm guessing his is coming in black? Andy's yet to decide...anybody else?! spin
I placed order 6 weeks ago, should arrive next April. Given it should be a keeper, I'm spending more time than normal thinking about colour etc. Going to Stuttgart to spec at the end of September, so will have to make mind up by then!

Mine are also keepers, did you know that the batts are designed to last the entire life of the car.....the other one has a 3 year warranty on its batts......are going to have your RS in a matching colour.....?

don't think we will see a faster car for a long time, 1300nm of torque....

I thought evo also said the wrap saved weight over paint?

And for what it's worth I think the red looks fantastic!

there is a matt black wrap option on the WZ pack car, this will save 4kg, ie no paint, then the martini wrap goes on top of this...like on the car that was at GFS

As the batteries demonstrate, I'm pretty sure that the 918 is going to be proven to be the best engineered of the 3 recent 'hypercars'. No doubt the batteries will be outdated in a few years, but as long as they still work, that's not a problem.

Hadn't thought about RS in same colour, but seems like a good idea! Having said that, I'm not 100% sure I am going to buy an RS, as struggling to think when I'll get much use out of it. Tracks are generally for racing, not trackdays IMO, although will get 918 out from time to time.

Will the RS be available PTS from day 1? (BTW, what are Porsche charging for PTS on 918? Not found out yet.)

lol, ie on the batts, the other 2 are not even on the same planet form a tech point on this, due to the advanced chemistry used on the 918 batts P feel that there will be no improvement for some time to come......

Getting detailed by S.L. Restoration and paint protection film applied by Paintshield Ltd.

What I wouldn't do for this.
Not much makes me go weak these days, but by Christ that is something isnt it?

I would have one just like that! Flipping fabulous!
